Wheelie bin trailer
Discussion
(Not sure what section to put this in, mods please move if required)
As we live down a long stone lane and have to transport our bins up to be emptied I'm thinking of building a little trailer which can be towed behind a ride on mower or quad.
I already have 2 general purpose trailers but you can never have too many trailers!
Thinking of a simple 1" steel box frame using puncture proof wheel barrow type wheels, with the drawbar angled down so that the bins will be tipped forward when loaded. I'd also use a spring loaded bolt like you'd use on a gate in order to clip underneath the lip below the lid to make sure they can't fall off.
I know you can buy these in a kit but wheres the fun in that when I've got a mig welder?
Has anyone built anything similar, any pictures or ideas to share? Comments welcome.

Perfect excuse to buy a Land Rover Defender (not the new one).
I found that wheelie bins would fit standing up in the back of mine.
Use your MIG welding skills to build a small ramp to allow them to be wheeled up through the back door.
Another perfect PH reply. I'd love a Defender but can't stomach the crazy prices they fetch nowadays.

Someone on here told the tale of hooking the bins behind his car,
Forgot to unhook them at the end of the drive, discovered them later on arrival at work, wheels worn down to the axles.

His car must have good sound insulation. Or a very loud engine!

I had the same issue some 10 years ago when I moved to a rented property out in the sticks, in the end I found a solution called TOWyer BIN on eBay, that no longer exist, that for £50 supplied two metal brackets that enabled you to tow a pair of bins via an existing tow bar.

Single bin solutions still do exist on eBay if that's any help with your inspiration ?

That's a neat solution, must admit I'd be tempted to start making them if I had a press brake...
