I upset a grizzly looking bloke today.

He was doing 40 in a 60 so I went past him.

I thought "that's that dealt with"

Only to realise a few seconds later he was on my bumper and I could see his screwed up face gurning in my rear view mirror.

Through the twists and gradients of the road there was nothing he could do to make his base spec Insignia intimidating because it just didn't have the grunt or poise to keep up so he lost a fair bit of ground.

When we got up to the urban area and a 40 limit he was back glaring at me and tutting his head. Poor wife in the passenger seat having to sit with him while he was bubbling in the drivers seat.

I just wonder how long that can go on for before the rage dissipates and you can go back to driving at 40 in a 60? He reached his destination and turned off. Could he still be angry about it now?

Probably for as long as he can still see you. If youd overtaken and pulled away out of sight, hed have probably calmed down a lot sooner.

I overtook a young lady who was more interested in phone than driving her car. She raced up behind me and started beeping her horn and mouthing abuse at me until I left her behind in traffic. Next day I saw her coming towards me through our village and she swerved her car towards me and started to turn round after me. Luckily I turned off before she had chance to see where I had gone. Worrying really as I am a powerfully built PHer and she looked like a slip of a girl.

That is pretty disturbing. Never heard of it being a multi-day thing.

I saw the same lady driving to work a couple of days in a row and she got annoyed with me both times... but I was in a different car on different days so doesn't really make it a multi-day thing. Our disagreement was just an annoying speed disparity of around 3mph which meant we kept getting in each others way.

I suspect that that would be a HUGE nightmare... no matter what you do you'd lose. You'd be:

picking on a defenceless young girl
a (potential) predator
a weakling
so on and so forth...

That's why I just got out of the way. The first incident I had my wife with me, but the second time I was on my own.

I don’t understand why being overtaken is such a trigger for a lot of people. There are a large number of single carriageway NSL roads that have those scary corner things, which means lots of 40mph everywhere drivers.

Being shown a number of fingers or having lights flashed at you when overtaking is common, but also common is being tailgated when you reach the next village with a 30 limit. It strikes me that the most angry are actually the worst drivers with zero awareness of the rules of the road.

Google "Dunning and Kruger" if not already familiar with the basic findings...
