I got into a bump in late last year on a roundabout one icy morning on my way into work. I got clipped from behind/side at my driver side rear tyre. Damage to my car was fairly minimal as it was just alloy scuffs and scrapes that I can get refurbished on my own fairly cheap. The damage to their car was a big scrape on their front bumper and a small dent and it had came off one of the bumper clips on one side. We both stopped at the scene, exchanged details took photos etc, agreed nobody was hurt and that was that. Nobody admitted fault and we both drove off.
I reported to my insurance as soon as I got into work and I presume they did likewise. 2 weeks later got a call from my insurance company asking if I wanted to proceed with the claim for my damage, I said no as damage to my car was minimal and it wasn't worth the excess. The claim has sat as 'open' on my account page ever since. I then got contacted through the other parties insurance company, and curiously clicked the link in the text message they sent me, the page was asking me to upload photos and my version of events etc. I never uploaded a thing and ignored it since.
Fast forward a couple months (after not hearing a peep from anyone) and I got a text from the other party stating their car was declared a write off! Someone is at it, there is no chance that car was a write off. Absolutely no chance. It had been 3 months since original incident, anything could have happened in that time. I had a look at the MOT page, noticed it was due it's MOT end of that month. Convenient?
Their car was fairly old, but the damage honestly looked absolutely minimal, maybe a new clip and a bumper respray or at worst a new bumper if I had to guess. I have ignored the text. I presumed at that point they would be making a claim against me so contacted my insurance company again. They confirmed a claim was made against me. They told me they would be looking to settle the claim on a non-fault basis and they made that offer to the other insurance company. They stated they would then look to settle it 50/50 if the other insurance company disputed it. That was 3 months ago now. I asked for an update last month and was told it was still open. Is there anything I can do here at all? I find it extremely hard to believe that car was a write off from a very minimal bump.
My insurance is due for renewal soon, and I've been getting quotes. Seeing an increase of almost £70 month declaring the claim as open. From £35 to £100 a month. Which for me is just not affordable and absolutely scandalous.
Any advice/etc would be appreciated.

And there you have it. A new bumper plus fittings, plus any damage underneath and the required paintwork could easily write-off cars that are not so old.As you've chosen to ignore everything so far, all you can do is wait it out. But you're insured, so they will sort it out for you.
