Looking for some help/advice here. I live in France. I want a car for when I'm in the UK seeing friends/family but I have no residential address in UK. I might want to drive this car over in Europe as well sometimes. I have a driveway in the UK I can park it on and, if it helps, a UK company who could buy the car and own it, perhaps allowing me - as a Director - to drive it?

Spoken to AIB / Direct Line and neither will insure me as I don't have a UK registered address (in the case of AIB for at least 2 years). Does anyone know any brokers/underwriters who are willing to insure this risk? This doesn't seem like an insurmountable problem and I can't believe it's that uncommon. Cheers

You could also try https://www.locktonperformance.com/

As a resident of France you may want to check the rules on importing a vehicle from outside the customs area.

Rules (and taxes) regarding goods across borders still apply even if you have no intention of permanent importation.

My cousin lives in Ibiza, last time she came home for a couple of weeks I said she could use my Volvo shed, it was cheaper to hire a car from Manchester Airport than to insure her for a fortnight though.

This isn't very encouraging smile. A Plan Insurance have also been recommended - I've yet to speak to them. I'll update once I have.

My Father in law was able to insure me (Dutch resident) on his car in the UK as a named driver. That was Axa, so maybe they are more accommodating.

Mother in law’s insurer (can’t remember who) wouldn’t hear of it, but as that’ would have been a VW Fox, I wasn’t terribly disappointed!

How much time spent In UK per year and how, accessible the places you stay without a car might help you work out the cheapest option. Airport car hire, named driver (if you find someone whose insurance will do that for a non resident), Uber, public transport, drive your left hand drive European car over. Lots of possibilities besides your preferred option may make your preferred option unaffordably complex unless you are a wealthy enough tax exile to be considering it seriously.
