Some of you may recall that when the Cullinan was revealed on PH there was a fantastic photoshop of a taxi sign on the roof in the thread. Comedy gold in fact.........

Well it turns out it wasnt a joke after all

Someone has sent a freedom of information request to TfL and got a list of cars registered as private hire.

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-...

The list includes 16 Rollers, inc a Cullinan, a number of Bentleys and some Maseratis

Its clear to me that to get enough cash to run a Roller you are probably smart and a bit lairy - I think Michael OLeary runs his Mercedes with a taxi meter to get around Dublin more efficiently in the bus lanes - but what does it actually entail to pass your car off as a taxi?

Does the licensing involve much red tape?
Do you need a meter?
A sign on the roof?
How much does it cost?
Can you drive south of the river?
And do you even have to prove you pick up the odd fare?

Cheers

Aren't Private Hire Vehicles treated differently to Hackney Carriages (black cabs) in London? Otherwise the bus lanes would be filled with poorly-driven Addison Lee MPVs.

The story I heard was that it was a way to get round the emission zone charges.

Yes! Sorry to be a bore OP, but a private hire won’t have a taxi sign on the roof! That being said, it’d be pretty cool if a Roller turned up after booking a minicab! biggrin

I highly doubt these cars are driving around with a "taxi" sign on the roof with some fat sweaty racist sat behind the wheel. Think more along the lines of executives who have a PA to arrange a car for them to go to and from their next big corporate take over.

(So the fat sweaty racist will be sat in the back instead)

Where did you get ‘fat sweaty racist’ from on a thread about Rolls Royce’s?

A Cullinan is ULEZ compliant though
