Guys,

Why may a car be MOT'd more than once a year? An example is this: VRM OIG5772 was MOT'd as follows:

31/4/2014 (pass)
24/6/2014 (pass)
18/8/2014 (pass)
16/9/2014 (fail)
16/9/2014 (pass)
4/3/2015 (pass)
9/11/2015 (pass)
3/3/2016 (pass)
29/9/2016 (pass)
6/3/2017 (pass)
22/9/2017 (pass)
3/3/2018 (pass)
21/9/2018 (pass)
23/2/2019 (pass)
3/2/2020 (pass)
16/2/2021 (pass)
26/1/2022 (pass)
22/6/2023 (pass)

To my eyes this looks smellier than a smelly thing (and the appearance of the car fits this sentiment.) Is there any legitimate reason why a car should have been MOT'd quite so frequently? Between June 2014 and March 205 it was MOT'd five times, only once of which was a fail. Thereafter, it was MOT'd every March and September for a number of years, despite it passing each time.

Fishy? Or legit?

YEs taxi. They need an MoT every 6 months at an approved LA MoT place. I used to use one all the time because I knew they would be honest and fair

Less chance of any clocking, and it has to be maintained very well. Looking at the positive side of life!

Hmm....it lost 60K miles in 2014 and two of its MOTs.

The low brake pad failures are odd - it added little mileage between them yet passed three MOTs without comment.

Thanks guys - I didn't know that taxi's had to be MOT'd twice a year. That still doesn't quite explain all those MOT's but it goes some way towards it. It's an old S-class so a prime candidate for taxi duties.

You couldn't run fast enough to give this car to me, and it's for sale locally. I typed the numberplate into the MOT checker out of curiosity. That there are a few rum things about it is no surprise whatsoever!

S-Class Merc, almost certainly been on taxi duty as already stated.

It's probably had a few haircuts in its life in-between MOT's too.

There was a similar post not long ago. Apparently some cruise companies offer ‘ premium’ packages for the elderly I think Saga may be one, where you are driven to the liner, usually in Southampton in a limo. They may not fancy a long coach journey or want the fuss at their years of driving, parking ,maybe an overnight stay or getting up at the crack of dawn, and paying for that. A ‘basic’ S Class is a known vehicle of choice and must rack up a huge mileage in a short time.No doubt it adds massively to the cruise costs.

I would say airport/executive taxi from new, sold at 4 years old in March 2014 (before it was clocked).

Then sent through a string MOTs which were edited to fake the history (before it was computerised), including either keeping a set of old pads, or just paying the guy to fail it, then sold again to another taxi runner in Septemberish 2014 having been clocked.

More taxi duty, possibly with a sale in the middle, until Covid put it back onto the market at 140-odd thousand miles, which is 220k actual.
