Audi A7 computer or tuning changes
Discussion
Hi
Hoping some a will know?
Bought an Approved used Audi A7 2019 diesel.
Cars only been to the dealership last 5+ months.
Been told by recent Audi cam the car is chip tuned classing the car as a modified vehicle.
Audi are saying I have done this which I’ve not. Been trying to get the data showing the changes which they are not sending me. The only 2 options if the car has been modified is that it was done before purchase or they have done something to mess the computers up on the car to make it modified.
The question, does anyone know if the Audi system record dates and times where changes been made to power outputs?
Even more know how I can get that data outside the dealership when they now have my car?
Thanks in advance

There will be some date stamps within the ECU, these should be accessible to people with the right equipment.
Awhile ago on here there was a similar saga involving a remapped Honda I think, that took a long time to get resolved- so be prepared to fight.
I'd recommend you don't do anything yourself regarding the ECU.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.
It has caused a lot of stress, but to insinuate I did the change has upset us more so to the value of the car and due to this potentially losing 7k which I’m not prepared to do.
Only issue, they have the car as they are still haven’t investigated all the issues on purchase and put it on hold till I decide how to move forward.
Just made me realise you cannot even trust approved dealers.

I recall someone else on here buying an approved used Audi and then sending it back after it was discovered to be chipped, so you're not the first.
I would personally trust franchised dealers less than independents, since the official dealer has an effective monopoly so doesn't have to worry so much about pissing off customers.
The only other possible avenue, and it's a long shot, is to google the number plate and/or search Audi forums, if you're very lucky you might find a thread with a previous owner of your car, talking about how much extra power they got from chipping their A7. But that's unlikely, and probably even less likely with a car like this than a more sporting model. Otherwise yeah an expert examination of the ECU would be the only way.
The diagnostic machine used in VWAG dealerships doesn't have the capability of telling us when the ECU was flashed/mapped.
What it does do is tell us when the change was detected by the servers at factory.
If a car was mapped 4 years ago and never been into a main dealers until today it would show the change point as today.
It's feasible the people who can carry out remaps would be able to see when it was actually done.
There's nothing the Audi dealer could have done to modify it/chip tune it.
During the Aprroved Used check, one of the very first points is to check for tuning. There's a test plan that is to be run and then sending the diagnostic log online. The dealer who supplied/did the Approved Used check should be able to access that log and show it was done. Although I've know mechanics who've been with the brand for years and didn't know they're supposed to be doing that, so definitely feasible it's slipped through the net.

Think now it’s a case that Listers Audi proving the car is mapped as they say, which for some reason still not supplied this evidence.
Even more finding the evidence this car was mapped prior to me purchasing the car.
It does feel like they are delaying this resolution which I can’t see why.

I think relying on the dealer to prove it's mapped if their software says it's mapped is a way for them to simply not pay out.
You need the more detailed analysis, including from the dealer that sold it to you as approved used, as is being suggested above, as there's a very good chance they didn't do the specific check. That would put you in a far better position, as yes it's mapped, but if there's at least doubt over when, and it was sold to you by Audi, you might not need a more expensive ECU interrogation to prove when it happened.

There used to be, and presume there still is, an escalation process if there's a dispute about if a vehicle has been remapped or not.
ECU gets sent for testing out of the car down at the technical HQ. Customer has to pay for this if I recall correctly.
I had a customer refute his car was remapped and it was done prior to him buying it until I showed him we'd done the correct checks prior to him purchasing it, and if he'd like to escalate it to he'd be liable for all costs. Suddenly he didn't want to pursue argument anymore, because he knew what he'd done and was chancing it.
Similarly, I've seen prep techs not do their job properly and not follow the process, then when a more conscientious tech works on it they discover it's modified. That's always a fun situation as it can take months or years to come to light.
Only the dealer who did the Approved Used check will be able to supply the diagnostic log (this may not be the dealer you bought it from as it could have been transferred between sites)
They shouldn't used GDPR to hide behind either as there's no personal data held in the log.
Edited to add: the system doesn't tell us how/what it's done to recognise the modification. Could be flash counter, could be boost levels, torque figures etc. And us at dealer level certainly don't have any access to the actual map

From way it’s been explained to me as I don’t have a clue much about car modifications. The cars computer is not showing the same as to a set of data done prior to purchase. That gives the indication that it’s been messed with after.
To me if it has changed then this must be at the hands of there own branch, as I have only taken that car to there premises and no where else for it to be checked due to the issues after purchase.
I do know the car was bought from that branch also and hand back I. After the term of agreement expired.
If the car was modded before purchase surely everytime this car was serviced it would have showed up? As it has got Full Audi SH.
