The Little Car Company CEO | Ask me anything

Questions, queries or comments about the Tamiya Wild One Max? Fire away - the boss will get back to you...

It’s an exciting project, the Tamiya Wild One MAX, the kind of which we haven’t really seen from The Little Car Company. Or from anywhere, really - reimagining a radio-controlled icon in full, adult-sized format with electric power is a pretty novel idea. Inevitably it piqued the interest of PH, because it looks great and ought to be enormous fun to drive. Which we’ll do absolutely as soon as possible, of course.

Now, this wouldn’t be PH without a serious interrogation of the facts before that point. The forum thread of pretty much any automotive announcement is testament to that, and the Tamiya reveal was no different. Where things do deviate from the norm, however, is that the boss of TLCC, CEO Ben Hedley, is a keen PHer himself and knows the audience boasts the sort of enthusiasm (and boundless curiosity with it) not really seen elsewhere. So he’s going to take on any and all questions you might have about the creation of the Wild One Max, an Ask Me Anything for the man who knows everything about The Little Car Company. And making an R/C car into the real thing.

All that’s required is to post any relevant questions you might have in the forum thread below. These will then be put to Ben next week, the answers transcribed and a follow-up feature published before the end of the month that’ll provide all the info you need. Simple as that. The TLCC team will be at PH25, too, so feel free to pop along then with any burning queries. They’re looking forward to hearing from you!

I assume this will be a common one....

What drove the decision on the performance (or lack there of)?

I assume that a spaceframe chassis and electric power pack can be configured in any way imaginable, so do you have any plans for other niche products: passenger version, light commercial / delivery vehicle etc?

Everyone knows it was King of Poland and Grand Duke Sigismund III. Haven't you got a proper question for the man? hehe

Have you got any idea how good this would have been with a 6.0 V8?

Can you put the 8 hole wheels back on? It doesn’t suit the Weller ones.

Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck?

At the time of asking for deposits, the price was very reasonable in my opinion. Now, it has increased by many multiples. I get that the spec has changed and features were added, but I have a sinking feeling there was never an intention to have a car at the original posted price.
Redeem this by offering something at the original price, even a heavily pared back version.

You seemed to feel road-legal status to be important to justify the £35k price. Have you considered releasing a track-only no-compromise version with the output screwed all the way up for the people who couldn’t care less about driving it on the public road? Proper off-road tyres maybe?

sorry in advance that my only question sounds a bit negative, but ... why so big?

at this size (and price-point) i cannot see why anyone would chose this over an ariel nomad, which is similar size, not that much more expensive and guaranteed to be on another level (or order of magnitude) in performance *and* fun. so it just seems redundant and pointless.

however if this was half the size, just for one person, and around 0.9m x 1.8m then it would be so much more interesting. you could race around your lawn or just go like "mountainbiking" into the woods with a small buggy instead of a bike. everything that is currently sold in the "1-person off-road kart" space is just mediocre and lacklustre, so thats where that project could have made sense.

i know i would have already done the pre-order if it just had the right size...

If in the future batteries are half the weight/twice the power, will there be upgrade kits?
Can this be modified in the same way the original RC car can be?

You’d just get KMS to build you a buggy with a better engine wink

At this price point I'd be looking at a decent Polaris RZR or Can Am Maverick but if it is the smaller size and single seater element you want then Sierra have good options https://www.sierra-cars.com/legacy/
They do an electric one too if that is what you are after.
