My trade insurance has been gradually going up over the years £400 a time. This year it's £2500. I'm a small timer, no premises, so this is expensive for me.

It's with tradex.

What's your premium? And which broker did you use?

Try Simply Insurance. I was with Aviva via a broker, the broker was excellent but the (claim free) annual increases were getting excessive. I have premises, forecourt, demonstration etc so my current premium costs may not be entirely relevant to your circumstances.

Just because they were expensive before doesn’t mean they will be today. They may be but if you don’t try you don’t know.

31, 20k for customer vehicles (I do mechanical repairs as well),10k own stock upto 10 vehicles, no premises, all under 3.5t vehicles including sports and performance and demo cover 1800, one sure insurance underwritten by trade ex with 6 years trade NCB

Thought it was expensive... Until I got a quote for my jaguar as a private vehicle for 1500 alone and promptly paid up, lol.

At the end of the day it's the bare minimum requirement to trade and should be paid off within a few deals. When I'm tempted to moan, I remember the entry level package for autotrader is 800 plus vat PER MONTH

What level of cover is that? Less than £50 per week for trade insurance doesn't seem expensive to me.

It's the best platform (followed very closely by car gurus, pls don't ban me mods) for the trade for bread and butter cars by a country mile so is a bit of a necessary evil.

That is the price I was quoted for a 8 car slot plus two cheapies so 10 in total. The bigger lads with forecourts will be paying upwards of 2k + vat a month eek

Find a good broker and get half a dozen quotes.
Tradex is bottom of the pile crap policy crap company to deal with when you have to make a claim.
