I failed to get a VED renewal notice last month and drove for 2 weeks without Tax until I checked. Then I noticed this new system for renewal notification and all your driving details.
Have I missed something that everyone else is aware of ? . I can't remember getting any information about this change,

Iirc that site has been around for at least a year and I only knew of it when asked to use it to download a copy of my driving licence details and record for a day at Millbrook.
From memory it did give you the ability to stop tax reminders by post but as you haven’t used it ,in theory you should still be getting those through the post anyway.

I've accessed the driving licence webpage last year (checking my penalty points had been added correctly) but I'm sure this business of adding each vehicle you own to your account wasn't there before ... and I'm pretty sure it's new URL and I needed to create my new account. The old site at
https://motoring.direct.gov.uk has disappeared.

I too didn't receive a tax reminder letter last month. I was horrified to receive a Final Notice last week. I have been driving around for nearly 3 weeks, including a Devon holiday, without tax. I accept it is my responsibility to manage my affairs but I have relied on the written renewal notice for years without issue.

I've just heard from a neighbour the same thing has happened to her daughter ... with the possibility of £1000 fine (or more) I think it's pretty serious.

This happened to a friend last week, he only received the final notice about two weeks after his tax had run out.

It seems DVLA don't send out reminders, but this is the only reporting I can find on the matter, from that great national powerhouse of news and circulation, the *checks notes* Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer....

However, the DVLA website says otherwise:

DVLA said:
All V11 reminders have been despatched from DVLA as they always are and without any delays, however we are investigating with our mailing providers reports of customers not receiving theirs

There is a thread on this subject as many people didn't receive a reminder for August VED renewals.

If only there was some visual way we could’ve known that tax was due! Maybe a reminder in the windscreen would be good.

I didn’t get a v11 too so been driving without tax. Tried registering for the gov driver site but it needs your passport, drivers license and all my cars v5 numbers ffs. Another failing government department? I was caught up in the passport chaos last year (16 weeks to renew), Hmrc owes me £800 refund since march and now this. :-(

Cracking idea, why haven't they thought about it? Submit it to one of their 'good ideas' competions.

I'm not signed-up to this scheme and did not receive a reminder for a car due 1 August, but I have had one for a car due 1 Sept..

They really seem to gave c*cked it up recently.

You can't beat the efficiencies of the Public Sector ... I think they all deserve a pay rise jester (along with their very well funded pension schemes)

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dvla-launches-n...

It launched at the start of the month
it's crap, i signed up, put in all my details, had to verify every V5 except my most recent one, which for some reason had my middle name on it, the others didn't so it wasn't an exact match.

Gives you loads of things you can supposedly update, but then it turns out the links are just links giving you information on how to update them, you can't update them on the site at all.
