Driving on the M6 early this morning the overnight road works had all gone but the lane closed red X were still lit - I misjudged it and thinking we were at the end I pulled out and drove under a red X. This was the 4 lane part of the m6 just north of Manchester so it was quite obvious the road works were no longer there, however I wondered if I am likely to get a ticket, anybody else been caught out?

Given reasonable luck you will be bung, strawn and watered for driving in a closed lane.

It'll depend if the gantry displaying the red X has a camera, or if a traffic officer was there to spot you doing it. NW Motorway Police on Facebook regularly post up to say they're sending fines to people driving through a red X though.

I've seen the HADECS 3 cameras on that stretch flashing people who've passed a red X. Nowhere near the speed limit (crawling in second gear under a 40mph limit), so it was absolutely the Red X violation rather than anything else.
