I had a 2002 VW Bora from 2006 to 2010. Over the years, after selling it, I’d check online to see if it was still on the road. A few weeks ago, it still was, but now when I check online with various sources, I see as in below:

I’ve never seen that before.
With a newer car, it might be explained by a personal plate being fitted, but I doubt that’s happened to a 21 year old Bora! Older cars that have been written off usually show something on the .gov website.

Any ideas?

How can you see that the car was scrapped?

Thank you. It did well. I ragged it from 60k to 160k miles, I think. Wonder if it still had 312mm front discs, and Eibach/Bilstein springs and dampers smile

It’s just strange that other cars I’ve had that have been scrapped still show on the .gov site.

On a vaguely similar note, I almost bought a car in March but was beaten to it by someone else who managed to get there first. It was a fairly rare spec that I really wanted so not just a simple case of looking for another. I was going to keep an eye on its "taxed" status on the basis that if it starts showing as un-taxed at some point in the future then a dealer may have it and be prepping it for sale. Anyway, it's no longer showing up on searches, so I guess someone's put a personal plate on it. Seemingly there's no way to find out what this is from the old plate or the VIN, both of which I have.

I had a Golf GTI that was new in 2002

It vanished a few years ago from the searches

Recently someone posted a link to a site that showed it had been put on a private plate and it showed up on a search of the original reg as being on the new one with the old one being shown as not transferable

Of course for the life of me can’t remember what the site was now

HPI website only seems to accept the reg number as the search critera.
