Hennessey Exorcist Final Edition signs off Camaro

The V8 Camaro is done, so obviously Hennessey had to make a few more with 1,000hp

It’s now six years since Hennessey first introduced its Exorcist package for the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Back then it was a response to Dodge Challenger Demon - because why make do with 840hp from a supercharged V8 when you could have 1,000hp? In 2023 the tone is somewhat more sombre, with both Challenger and Camaro coming to the end of their lives as combustion powered muscle cars. So Hennessey has donned the black armbands (and dug the black paint out again) for a Final Edition Exorcist.

There are plans to make 57 of these wild cars, referencing the 57 years since the Camaro went on sale. The mechanical package is familiar from the first Exorcist and the more recent Anniversary Edition, though when talking about a 1,000hp pushrod V8 one last time it seems worth sweating the details. The 650hp 6.2 is treated to a larger supercharger, a higher-flow induction system, upgraded injectors, a fiercer cam, stronger valves, better cooling and a ported head. Thanks to ECU work and an appropriately menacing exhaust on top (hear it in action here), the grand totals are 1,000bhp (or 1,014hp) alongside 966lb ft, which must be the sort of torque required by a space shuttle.

As before Hnnessey claims 0-60mph in 2.1 seconds, which just seems silly with two-wheel drive and that much mass - unless the roll out begins at 30mph. The claimed 9.54-second quarter-mile feels more on the money, because once it’s hooked up this Camaro is surely going to fly. Find the space and 217mph is reckoned to be possible.

Marking this Exorcist out compared to those that have come before are a unique ‘Final Edition X of 57’ engine bay plaque and some exterior graphics. All mechanical upgrades are backed by the company’s three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. Head honcho John Hennessey said “Our comprehensive upgrade to the Camaro ZL1 is one of my all-time favorites. The chassis, suspension, and powerplant work seamlessly together, so all the driver experiences is raw, unbridled horsepower. There’s nothing else like our Exorcist, so we’re eager to share this special limited edition with fans of this iconic car before it’s gone forever.” Amen to that, brother. It’s ain’t going quietly, that’s for sure…

Unless your head does a 360° when you floor it I'm not interested.

A yellow one to go with my Corvette in the garage HELL YES.

Although no idea if it would look good in yellow. Maybe a few yellow accents instead.

Indeed, if it doesn't come with a young priest and an old priest as passengers, I am holding back my deposit.

Oh yes, that is brilliant. I guess, you'd have to walk if it rains.

Excellent stuff (though I still prefer the Challenger) - just awaiting some plum complaining about the exhaust being too loud

Muricans obsession with being fast in stright lines continues along with baby names for carz.
Generaous that the warranty runs out at 36k miles. So thrash the f**k out of it until 35,999 and then sell.
Great for bros with reversed baseball caps and attitdood.
2.1secs 0-60 mph 🤣more like 4 with smoke.

Not sure if you have children, but 'Exorcist' was not high on the boys list for mine...

That's exactly the reason for it.

Also mentioned on grand tour, season 3 episode 1 I think (may have been season 2). I only remember it as it came out a couple of weeks before I took delivery of a brand new mustang which also features on the episode (and gets thrashed by both in a straight line!)

It would be fun I'm sure but having "EXORCIST" written in big letters down the side of my car would make me feel like a proper tit!

I was going to get one but apparently the music system only plays Tubular Bells on repeat.

I'm sure there's a lot of faster cars out there. But probably not many which could put as big a smile on your face. Definitely one for my dream garage smile

Whilst I agree the claimed 0-60 time was probably a miracle launch with warmed up slicks on a prepped drag strip, the cliche of "only fast in a straight line" is so last century. The ZL1 and Viper ACS seem to fair pretty well at the Nurburgring.

Another one for the “God Bless America” category. The world is a better place, for having mad Americans making stuff like this. Hell yeah! woohoo

Agreed. C7 Corvette Z06 also not bad with: 7:13.90 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C7) 2017-04-24

And I can confirm around Goodwood it seems to take corners bloody well!

Happy it exists, but reality for me is different. I have had multiple fast cars with launch control for example but have any used it twice as I recall, and one of those was in a Porsche Taycan Turbo S I was trying.
I have some impractical cars but doubt that this would have much value for me . Would be fun to see one thundering by though.

Love it, quite a handful I'd imagine. No real issues shaking the tail loose though at any speeds smile
