I (as did my neighbour) had a letter the other day, in my case from AA Insurance with information on a car insurance policy not in my name, but at my address. The buyer had also attempted to get a monthly payment credit plan on the huge premium (£4500 for a VW Passat!)

I called AA Insurance to get it rejected and cancelled (I was mainly concerned about the credit aspect and they had already flagged it), which they duly did.

They said that they've had a number of instances where people are using addresses they find of rural areas where its cheap to insure, and attempting to get insured there rather than their own address.

Anyone else heard of this? Is there anything more sinister to it?

Had this at parents house six years ago, unknown name and insurance company logo on envelope, sent it back each year with "not known" until one got opened, wrote them explaining neither name or car is known in the street and never received another.

Happened to my FIL. Had umpteen different people all registering cars to his address. He never had to pay any money it was all just rather annoying for them. Never found out what the "scam" was and just assumed it is just for the scammers to get cheaper insurance.
