Hi all, just wondering what people are thinking about DPF's?
I'm no expert but if I've been educated correctly, DPF's are fitted by law to all diesel vehicles after 2008-ish which were introduced to prevent excess particles entering the atmosphere; get it and understand the idea, however, the reality is somewhat different if I'm correct. . . . .
I bought a used golf 2.0 TDI a few years ago without knowing anything about DPF's but within a few days there was a blast of smoke out of the exhaust, staright back to the garage who explained its normal and it needs and I quote " a good blast once a week" since then I've experinced different problems with them as have other people I speak with, to the point people have had them removed, drilled out and so on as they are causing cars to go into limp mode, lights appear on the dash etc etc.
I assume everyone reading this has they own experiences and heard many stories, but I'm curious as to the legalalities and benefits.
If the easiest way is to go for a blast, surely this adds to emmissions and the worst case is people are taking them off which someone could buy a used car without knowing, surely it has been a failure and leaving innocent buyers exposed by driving a vehicle that should have a DPF yet doesn't if they get pulled over and checked?
What does everyone else think?
