One-of-25 Audi RS4 (B8) Nogaro for sale

There was only one colour that could celebrate the RS2 - good job it suited the RS4 just as well

Those of us less enthusiastic about the festive period will already be looking ahead to 2024 and the promise of a new year. No doubt there will be plenty of automotive anniversaries to celebrate over the next 12 (and a bit) months, so here’s one to kick things off early: the Audi RS2 is 30 years old in 2024.

We won’t dwell on that car for long - heaven knows we’ve all heard enough about the Porsche-fettled 80 Avant for a good while yet - but instead focus on the anniversary. Will it be marked by Audi? Probably not. The RS2’s distant descendent, the B9 RS4, will be out of production soon, and it’s already had its end-of-the-line special edition in the shape of the impressive Competition. With Audi charging ahead (no pun intended) towards the electrified future, looking back on a five-cylinder cult curio seems unlikely.

How different things were not so long ago. In 2014, to mark 20 years of the RS2, Audi launched something called the RS4 Nogaro at that year’s Geneva motor show. It very much did as it said on the tin: the Nogaro was a B8 RS4 painted in Nogaro Blue, with even more of it inside. The special edition was also treated to additional carbon, red brake calipers and the 174mph delimit as standard. A simpler time.

Back then the Nogaro almost felt like a missed opportunity to really sign the B8 off in style, ramp up the attitude for a car that had never been quite as loved as its predecessor. A nice thing to look at, but little more. Now, with just 25 allocated to the UK right at the end of the production run, it surely represents one of the more appealing ways into that sublime powertrain.

The B8 was better to drive than you’ve heard, and this Nogaro benefits from the sport differential as well. Though replacing this high revving, less torquey V8 with a twin-turbo V6 made complete sense given the RS4’s remit, these old ones - complete with a DCT, don’t forget, where later cars were torque converter autos - feel rather more special now. It seems crazy to use the term ‘modern classic’ for a car on a 64-plate, but consider how fast we’ve moved away from ideas as wonderfully daft as 8,500rpm estates.

This Nogaro has been kept busy, with basically an owner a year from new and 66,000 miles recorded. These V8s have never been cheap to run, so perhaps the reality of RS4 life bit a little too hard for some of them. Despite that, it looks brilliant, particularly that very special paint. Some of the interior has inevitably faded a little, though that could surely be remedied. With so few ever available in the UK, those keen on a Nogaro RS4 (it’s not hard to see why) aren’t exactly spoilt for choice - this is the only one of its kind currently on PH. Do your history checks, try to negotiate as much free super unleaded into the deal as possible, and enjoy - any more RS2 tribute acts look very unlikely now.

I have seen a couple of these for sale recently as I have looked at fast estates...I had a Mk1 Focus RS and this interior reminds me of that....not sure it works in the Audi TBH

Do these engines need de-coking like their predecessor?

Love the exterior colour, but inside….? Hmm,got to agree with first poster,it’s a little too chavvy for me tbh. Still a stunning RS overall mind.

I loved mine, but mine was not the limited edition version, but std car with exclusive paint, so I had the colour but with full buckets and sunroof. It looked stunning.
Great cars.

Strange question for an RS car maybe, but did it feel quick? I am used to turbo cars with the wick turned up and easy torque

My first thought too when I saw those seats smile beautiful looking exterior though with an exquisite colour to match.

I was never a huge fan of these when they were first released but they have definitely grown on me looks wise. The noggy blue with the black package on this looks stunning imo.

I drove one when it was near new and it was quite a thing, I preferred the E90 M3 I had at the time but these felt like a big leap forward from the B7

I’m not sure why there’s so much negativity on the interior, it’s a classic combination with the noggy blue paint as far back as the RS2. Far nicer than boring black.

SV car, so supplied by Aberdeen Audi new, at the time the top selling Audi dealer in the UK

I’ve been looking at these for a while, prices have remained firm, it’s suffered from classic motoring journalism that the BMW (e92) is more dynamic and the AMG (w204) has the ballistic engine. Perhaps because of this less of them have fallen into careless ownership and prices have been strong.

A colleague has silver one with the buckets and it looks fab, bit of a Q car in the modern world of wings and carbon everything.

I had the B7 RS4, having been in quick turbos for several years previously, and it was honestly a disappointing experience.

Did look good though

I drove a B8 whilst owning the B9. Honestly, the noise is the only part of the car worth buying when compared to the twin turbo V6.

The V6 is better at literally every point in the rev range. The V8 felt like you really had to kick its arse to get it to go anywhere, and even then it didn't seem to go anywhere quickly, despite having the same headline power output.

Great noise though. biggrin

This sold for 23k on Collecting Cars back in Feb with 6k fewer miles on it.

I rather like the spec - but then I'm a sucker for a bit of Nogaro smile

Does look great...and a good price.
Our neighbour had one very similar, but a slightly newer one (from brand new).
2 replacement gearboxes later (both on Audi warranty) , he sold it.
Something about Audi's and their auto boxes? - Just dont trust 'em!

A collegue had an E92 M3 and traded it in for one of these. It never felt as quick as it should be,Audi kept telling him that it just needed running in. That didn't change anything so he got it on a rolling road. I think it was about 370bhp or thereabouts.
Took it back to Audi who scanned it and looked over everything, came back with try it now sir, should be much better. No difference so it went back again, same thing again and the third time he handed it over he asked them not to call him until it was at least above 400 bhp.
A couple of weeks went by before they called and said they'd done all that they could.
Didn't feel any quicker and i think it had something like 5-8 bhp more on the rolling road.
Straight back to Audi,a loooong time later they offered to buy the car back but he had to sign some paperwork to basically stay silent about the whole thing. As much as he liked the car otherwise,he was just happy to be out of it.
Apparently the optimistic power claims on these are well known.

Always loved this colour going back to the original RS2. Looks like a good buy, but as I've intimated before, the RS4 just didn't feel that quick.

Well at least it's been used as intended!

Agree that the seats are a bit meh, but I'll be honest I'd much prefer this with the standard chrome fixings and silver wheels. In this colour it almost looks unfinished without the brightwork.

Dont the intakes get coked up on these and cause the power loss ?

30 grand doesnt seem too bad considering it being a special edition but think stuff like this is in for a pasting price wise, its an enthusiast car but not rich enthusiast, its special but not that special as its basically just been painted blue, has some blue sued and carbon bits.

I think as a package these are fantastic, but the VED and thirst maybe a bit wearing, and they arent all that fast in the scheme of things nowadays but if you can afford to run it and not fret about it, a lovely thing to own, and very useful. Wonder if these are still a theft magnet like newer RS Audis ?

There was a lot of well documented dyno tests on the B7 that showed it was way down on power, didn't know the B8 also had issues with real power figures..

These are on the list as a future family/dog wagon. Purely because any estate that revs to 8200rpm is uber cool laugh

My bad,was probably the B7,not sure the problem isn't the same on this with the even higher power claim 🤔

These were over-priced and under-specified with few people wanting them as a result.

A well equipped "standard" RS4 is a much better bet.
