Multicar insurance
Discussion
Hi All,
Currently insured with eSure on a single vehicle, I'm about to buy a 2nd vehicle as a run around but contacting eSure they say they don't do multicar insurance and pointed me towards the usual comparison sites.
I've done a quote on the second vehicle but I cannot use my NCB if it's in use currently.
So I assume I need a multicar policy, does anyone have any possible solution or suggestions on this?
Cars in question if that helps: -
Cayman GT4
GR Yaris

Admiral is probably worth a shout. To me though, Multicar is a con. It takes just as long to get initial quotes on all the cars as to insure them separately. You may, as I did, get a great price for the first year but come renewal time for me they put the rate up by a massive amount (and that was before the current huge industry increases). If this is the case, you will undoubtedly get a better deal insuring each separately, then you are stuck with the ballsache of having to insure all the cars at the same time rather than spread throughout the year.
I wish I'd never got involved.

I've used Multicar policies for years with Admiral, and more recently with LV.
They have always needed a separate NCB for each car. So you will need to start with zero NCB on your 2nd car, it WILL be expensive for the first few years.
You may find that keeping the new policy with another provider is cheaper/easier.
I now have full NCB x2, although, if I ever had a claim on one, I know they will load the other policy on renewal, due to that golden question 'have you made any claims in the last 5 years?'!!
The big downside of multicar, even once you move away from the company, is that all your renewal dates are the same, so more £££ together if you pay annually. We have 3 policies that renew on the same date (wife's car also).

That's odd as when I did a market 'check' a few weeks ago on one car - the A6 Allroad, it was slightly more to insure on it's own than all 3 cars together with LV.I wish I'd never got involved.
The same group of cars actually went down with LV by £200 last year to £420 and have come up this year to £573 so I'm still in a better place premium wise than 2 years ago even after this years increase.

Would rather cut my own balls off than use Admiral I wish I'd never got involved.

Seems extreme, I've not had any issues. I insure three cars with them on a multicar and couldn't get them any lower individually through price comparison websites, specialist brokers etc... Luckily I have never had to claim, so they do a perfectly good job for me.I'd always ask for a quote from them with more than one car.

Exactly this!I wish I'd never got involved.
We had it for a year when things looked good....then a £££ hike the next year (also before this year's raging increases) made me look around....lo & behold, I could get it much cheaper doing separately.
Don't think I will bother looking at those options again....

For me every year the renewal comes in higher and about the same as I could get insuring the cars separately, I then call them and moan and they knock a good 20 - 30% off every single time. It's a tedious little routine but I've saved thousands over the years. We had it for a year when things looked good....then a £££ hike the next year (also before this year's raging increases) made me look around....lo & behold, I could get it much cheaper doing separately.

My house insurance is with them too, and part of the same routine.
If you are are mature in age you may well find insurers will quote you on the second car treating it as if it had the NCD applied from your other car. You need to call them for this. I've Done it, and I've seen it done. Call them, tell them you have X years NCD on your other car and they will price it like that same NCD was on your new insurance. The underwriters are not daft, they know your risk and want your business.
Alternatively multicar will do similar if you call. Multicar can be a bargain when they do the introductory offer. They discounted mine so heavily to get me on board I basically had free insurance on my R8 for a year. t renewal now they come in about the same as insuring seperately, but as long as they get close enough I renew.

Sorted now, my current insurer doesn't do multicar and you cannot call to get a quote also seemingly. Rang a few specialists and also the usual comparison sites, none seemingly would offer any NCB on my 2nd car (Yaris).
Anyway, ran through the comparison sites as just a second car and with access to multiple vehicles my existing NCB and it actually came out cheaper than having a multicar quote, plus my renewal isn't until March on the GT4 so enables me to continue to build NCB without cancelling and moving to another insurer.

I've always found insuring both separately was cheaper than multicar policies or at minimum. Both cars are with Churchill which I think they provide a discount for multi policies, but both policies are completely independent of one another.
Interestingly, I played about having my Full NCB on toy vs daily and the savings on one was usually negated by the extra cost of the policy without NCB regardless on which policy it was attached to. Now I have Full NCB on my daily and slowly building the toys policy. I'd imagine if I change the daily to something super cheap to run, tax and insure though, it might tell a different story.

When I first got a 2nd car A-Plan brokers now called Howden Insurance got me a policy for my 2nd car that mirrored the NCD on my main policy and nearly a decade later I've got full NCD on both.
I've got multi-car quotes a few times in the past but have only ever had a competitive quote for one car, never both.
A relative had a miserable claim experience with the senior naval office insurer a few years ago, then earlier this year I got sh*fted by them when someone they insured hit my car - I'd avoid them at any cost.
