As the title says. Earlier this evening while parked up a Kia Sportage reversed into the drivers side rear door. I was sat in the drivers seat and blasted the horn before they hit but they continued. Doesn’t look too bad but had a closer look when I got home and the sill is bent along with the rear sliding door mashed. The B max doesn’t have a B pillar so I’m assuming this’ll be a write off. It’s a 15 plate with 34000 miles on the clock. Also it’s a Titanium X with a few options. We’ve owned it since new and really don’t want a replacement. I’m totally against SUV’s and my wife wants something the same to replace it if it is written off. Where do we go? I personally want to keep it and get it fixed.

If the sliding door is still opening and closing fine then that looks about £400s worth of damage to fix.

I hope so! It’s the bent sill that concerns me most. Floors kinked too when you look underneath.

I'd expect a write off tbh if floor's bent. Wife's 2014 Mazda 3 was bumped in 2020 and needed a new rear bumper plus paint and some repairs to the tailgate and the insurer's bill was about £3k.

First port of call is the Kia owner’s insurance company. I’m sure they’ll get that fixed. Looks cosmetic.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Depends how long parts take etc as much as anything. Hire car costs soon add up.

To the OP- if they want to write it off you can still usually take a settlement where you keep the car. You’ll be able to repair it much more cheaply too as you can decide to use used parts etc.

A hire car would only be needed for a day or two while it's being done, looks perfectly drivable.

Perhaps. But if the structure could be compromised an insurer probably isn’t going to risk liability for any harm which happens to the OP if they let him drive it. Far better to just write it off.

My insurance company, at the beginning of the year, couldn't have cared less. They asked me if it was driveable, I said yes and drove it. The garage then had my car for the least possible time. I don't want to be party to this inflated hire car cost system.

It’s a door skin and an outer sill repair my man, you are coming off a bit alarmist.

It’s perfectly drivable in my opinion. If they do write it off I’d be keen to keep it. We’ve had it since new and I’ve kept it well maintained. I’ve covered it in diniitrol and acf50 every winter so there’s zero rust which is good considering it’ll be 9 years old in March. The nagging doubt is the structure though. If it was a fiesta with a B pillar then I’m sure it would be fine but the main strength comes from the sill and roof with the closed doors adding to it. I’ll get some clearer pictures when it’s daylight.

That’s what I want to hear! Although I’d rather a new door as skins are never right!

What do we reckon it's worth? Repair should be less than £2k IMO

39,000 miles etc gotta be worth at least £5k?

Been for the estimate. Needs a door and they reckon the sill will straighten. I reckon it’s worth a bit more than £5k! Closest equivalents on auto trader are up around the £9k mark. There’s only one that’s the same spec for sale that’s 6 months older but lower miles. Auto trader valuation comes back at £6995. Ignore the street Ka wheels. That’s our winters. The 17” wheels are tucked away in the garage.

Damage looked a bit smaller by night! But still cosmetic only.

Probably north of £2k with a new door but still not in the danger zone for BER IMO.

Body shop are pretty sure it won’t be written off. I’m happy it can be fixed. Really can’t be arsed car shopping and it ticks the boxes for us as the school run and shopping car.

If it's an EcoBoost, it'll be due a timing belt soon, big complex job, well over £1,500 to do.

The same is true of any similar car OP could buy with the poultry payout the insurance company would offer in the event that it was written off.
