Hello, I am new to the forum and I want to ask you guys a question about the MOT.

I know the Law states that "LED bulbs fitted to a halogen Headlamp is a Fail", but are the front fog lights a headlamp?
And also, I know they were not a requirement until 2018, my car being a 2016, does that mean they are not tested at all during the MOT?

If anyone has any more info please let me know (thank you!)

As I understand it:
  • Front foglights are not required to be fitted
  • On cars first registered after 2018, if front foglights are fitted they must work.
Since your car is from before 2018, the front foglights will not be tested. However, whilst the MoT test wont check them, aftermarket external LED bulbs are illegal even if the lights in question are not required. I think you could in theory be pulled over for not having a road-worthy vehicle, although how anyone would ever notice unless you drive around with your front foglights on all the time (which is also illegal), I don't know. smile

On a car first used BEFORE March 2018: fog lights are not tested.
On a car first used AFTER March 2018: IF fog lights are fitted, they are to be tested, but are NOT mandatory to be fitted
That is the MOT testing position, however operating any lamp incorrectly will be an offence.

Why did you just repeat Kambites' post?

I didn’t. It’s my own post, and the wording is different. See if you can see where it differs, there’s a good chap!
