Carrying on with the TVR theme my Chimaera 500 is coming up to 22 years, just shy of 100K miles and just one breakdown. I’ve owned it from new.

My first MX-5.

Bought it on 32k and sold it 7 years later with 104k on the clock.

Services, fuel, tyres.

4 x brake callipers (they all do that, sir)

The sills of course.

And that was it.

Took a Jimny from 70k to 145k over 4 years or so. Let me down once, a fan belt snapped. Other than that it was all just maintenance, had to do the king pin bearings at about 110k.

Abused the ever living fk out of it too, you know you can tow a 2500kg plant trailer with a Jimny in a pinch... up to about 30mph or so. You can also jump them without so much as the tracking going off.

Sadly about 13-14 years old it started getting rust in places you wouldn't want rust.

This thread is just going to be the epitome of anecdotes and lack of sample size.

Cars break in a statistical way, as complex machines.

My old Lotus Elise was the least amount of maintenance I've ever had to deal with.

BMW M240i owned it three years all that broke was a window regulator.

As an aside least reliable was a Volvo V60, spent thousands on electrical issues and it still wasn't 100% when I got rid

Many many years ago I had a Fiesta 1.25 ze tech as a station runner. Had it years, didn’t service it, didn’t spend anything on it at all, absolutely nothing went wrong. Sold it about 3 years later for the money I paid for it.

Worst car - Porsche, I’ve had circa 10 and without a doubt they’ve been the most problematic. Still I’ve driving them though!

06 plate Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi. Bought 9 months old. Did almost 75k miles and still on original brake pads. Apart from tyres and wipers, had to change one rear bulb a few weeks before we got rid of it. It’s replacement, a 10 plate (last of the PD engines) was very good but not quite as reliable. We’re now on Skoda number 3 (Superb estate).

Rover 200 with the 2.0 L-series diesel engine.

Bought it, had it chipped to 140bhp and thrashed the living daylights out of it everywhere for 5 years in my early 20s and only ever bought consumables for it.

Berlingo. Bought it at 108K, sold it at 270k. Other than service items it had an alternator at 180K, both front wheel bearings went around 160K, and the brake proportioning valve went at 260K.

Tesla Model 3. 3 years+ 45k miles and no problems. Just new tyres.

Previous car was M240, also 45k, which had a drivetrain problem that sorted itself out somehow.

Lotus Elise, did about 30k, kept throwing up engine management light which was just emissions and nothing major.

But this and all of the other replies are just anectdotal.

3 months ago I would have said the Honda CRV we currently have. However recently it's really started to become a little bh and broke down once, threw an error code (I fixed it with gorilla tape), lights doesn't work ( not bulbs), it has an odd vibration/rattle at certain speeds.

Up until then it had been faultless
