Hi All
I have a bit of a dilemma and I'm not 100% sure how to deal with it.
I renewed my car insurance back in September 2023 bit I cannot for the life of me remember who with.
I have checked with this site: https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ and its showing as insured.
I have trawled my inbox and archive but I simply can't find any record!
I know how ridiculous it sounds, but how do I find out?
I have looked through my bank statements too but appear to have no record of the transaction.
IIRC, it was about £360.00 but its not showing up anywhere.
I even logged in to my Comparethemarket account but it's only showing a previous quote for my wife's car.
Does anyone know how I go about finding out......?
TIA

Did you maybe pay with PayPal or similar? No email searches for insurance bring anything? No bank statements show anything in that month for £300+?

A bit naughty, but go in as third party and it should tell you

MID will identify who you are insured with.

Could be an interesting conversation with the police but is it an offence to not remember your insurers name?

Did you print off a copy of the Cert of Insurance and pop it in the car?

Paid on partner's card?

Accidentally ticked monthly payments and u expected £30 direct debit coming out every month?

Bought through comparison website and looking through that might give a clue?

With MID I think you'd have to pay a fee to view details....as if you're checking someone else's insurer. As for Police, aren't they just interested if the person is insured for driving the car?

Ok, so as suggested I've looked a bit deeper in to the MID and it looks like I can find out via them.
Can take up to a month apparently but I'll make sure to print it off next time to avoid all this.
Thanks for the input, lesson learned laughbeer

Are you sure you actually paid for insurance?

It doesn't take a month, it's instant.

OP probably done a SAR.

How you can't even remember your insurer let alone drive a motor vehicle responsibly to me is beyond me.

I have 3 cars and 2 bikes and regularly switch companies. It's entirely possible to not remember which vehicle is with who, but an email archive search would do it for me. smile

It's only an issue if you have an accident. Insurers have to contact you with a renewal notice way before by the means you permitted (e.g. txt / email) as well as by post. I think it's 28 days but I've had them only about 21 days prior occasionally.

It's also an issue if something goes wrong and you end up looking like you are uninsured.

Unless the email went in your spam and deleted itself then using the search function on your email account for ‘insurance’ would surely find the payment email. I just tried it on mine (yahoo) and it brought them all up.

For data protection reasons, the insurance emails are often light on details so a search often won’t bring them up unless you know the company name.

I had a similar problem a while ago, only by searching through every email around the renewal time did I find it.

Try other email addresses too… work, personal etc.
