Learner Driver Abarth 595? What Unusual Car did You Learn In
Discussion
If you Google marmalade provisional insurance you will find that it's fairly "cheap" to add provisional licence holders to a reasonably high insurance group
family car.
It's when they pass that the fun starts. We were insuring a mini Cooper with my daughter on as a named driver.when she passed her test we had a couple of days where we considered selling my wife's car and buying s Honda Jazz

I don't get this cheapness for people that have yet to pass their test?
Surely a learner driver in a car, even with someone watching over them, is a considerable risk. Scraping bumpers when parking, crossing lanes etc due to lack of knowledge/ skill.
Even when I was driving with a qualified instructor, i was more of a risk than when i actually passed my test as I had no clue how to actually drive a car at the very start.
Only thing i can think of is that once you are allowed out on your own, you can pack your car with 4 other people and give them all life changing injuries.

A friend passed his test in his mums Ford Ka mk1 65 bhp and promptly bought a Ferrari 355 as his first car - which he demolished through a hedge into someone’s garden narrowly missing anything solid.
He then bought a 911 996 with his insurance payout which soon after killed its engine with cylinder failure ( having never checked the oil level).
I don’t think it’s a good idea putting a learner in a performance car but the story above proves that whatever you learn to drive in an idiot will always be an idiot!
