I am looking for anyone who has a vehicle fitted with a mileage blocker or has experience with Mileage blockers, any stories about experiences with them and the effect they have had.

We have a tool that can potentially detect them. any help greatly appreciated.

Is this the GPS device you plug into the 12V cigarette lighter and it blocks the tracker (and your phone) from working?

I though they were banned?

No, this is a device fitted which stops the car logging mileage on the cluster - some are sophisticated enough to stop the various ECUs logging it as well

If you’re looking to market a device to detect them OP, then I’d be in touch with the large franchise driving schools.

They lease cars to franchisees on the basis of the mileage they cover, so the lower the mileage, the less cost of the rental.

I was advised of a case where mileage blockers were widely used by franchisees to lease the car at a lower cost, but disguise the actual mileage of the vehicle to benefit from it.

I suppose anyone, private or business who leases a car may be tempted to use one if they were unscrupulous enough.

Which make did you want to use a blocker on?

correct, its a device that plugs into the back of the instrument cluster, it can prevent mileage from being logged in some ECUs but they do not prevent mileage logging in some body control modules (eg TCM)

Why not buy one and test your device on it.

I don't think you're going to get anyone here to admit they have one fitted.

Yeah, I wouldn't admit to being a scumbag on an open forum either, and there is no excuse, just says to me you are living beyond your means and get a car you can afford to run rather than pretending. Same goes for dealers that do it and anyone that offers the service beyond legitimate adjustments for say when components have been changed.

In Audi's the mileage is also logged in gearbox etc so if they only freeze it on the dash they could come unstuck.

The issue with these next gen mileage blockers, is that they don't block the mileage -, but reduce it to 20% of what it has actually covered. This is consistent across all modules. So gearbox etc would have logs of the reduced mileage.
Next Gen? You mean the current Gen.

Last time Lady B changed her car, we bought privately. We were looking at 4/6 year old cars of a mainstream model. Of those advertised about half of them were of a condition that didn't relate to the displayed mileage.

Only last night a vid on YT caught my attention, cars going through an auction. A 20 year old Porsche caught my attention going for a cheap price, I thought it had to have mega mileage so checked the mileage, FM03VBP was only showing 125K miles.... then I scrolled down the history... 12 years earlier it had a higher mileagerolleyes

Clearly a market for them with all these cheaper leases on 5K miles

A trip down the local taxi rank may yield results !

yes that would have been done with old school clocking back the miles. Newer ones history all lines up, even when dealership diagnostics plug in it shows the reduced mileage.
I know the newer ones record X% and is plug and play (or so they say), but wasn't there recently a case of a high end car dealer finding out the Lambo presented to him to buy was clocked using one of the new systems. It was sun 10K miles and had done an extra 3/4K miles than indicated?

Does the speedo also show the speed as 20% of what it really is?

Are you trying to detect the device after it has been removed and the car placed fit sale? Or when it is stil fitted?

I would be interested In such a device if they detect after removal also, having been looking at used 3series tourings and similar.
I have given up there all clocked junk on the market for sale
For top money All have interiors that do not reflect mileage

This is partially correct, the current blockers on the market have 4 modes
1. Off
2. Stop all mileage recording
3. 20% of mileage recorded
4 10% of mileage recorded

It does not effect the speed on the dash only the distance traveled.

It can only stop mileage being recorded via the dash modules, on most cars the transmission (TCM) powertrain (PCM) and Body (BCM) control modules have acces to other distance measurement systems. so whether the device is fitted or not on some brands we can detect them.
