Not something I've been involved with before. My MiL has asked me to sell the plate that was on my FiL's car until he passed away last summer. It's only worth a small amount so far as I can tell, but better in her pocket than not.

Any tips welcome. TIA.

Put it on retention (cost £80) then advertise here and on eBay. Be prepared to wait a long time until someone wants that plate.
Dealers may buy it but you will, obviously get less back. Many dealers operate on a commission basis where they will advertise it for you and take a cut of the sale price.

Be careful sharing details of the retention cert as all an unscrupulous person needs to assign the plate onto their vehicle is the certificate ref. number and your postcode.

MBZ then four figures. Was previously on a merc. Unexciting, but they seem to change hands for between £400 and £1000 depending on how interesting the numbers are. I suspect this one might be at the lower end.

If you look at the completed items on eBay it gives the sale price. Most of the ones in the price range you quoted go unsold. The last MBZ plate I can see on there that did sell was MBZ3302 and it sold for £155.

I used this site when I sold my plate last summer. Decided it was less risky than marketplace type options. You decide the price, they handle the entire process and charge the buyer commission. My plate sold within a couple of weeks. Only downside was they sent me a cheque which I had to take to the bank to pay in.
