Would this just look stupid on a 21st C car? (I've a Hyandai i20 with wrecked paintwork)

On a Polo it might be OK, even on another VW at a stretch but you're going to have to field a lot questions if you put it on a completely different brand.

I think the paint has to be smooth to apply a wrap, so putting it on gash paint will just look gash, and probably peel off.

There's another thread about insurance not paying out due to modifications, no idea how much increase it would be in premium, I like different though, make a change from all the dull shades of grey

Or I could just go 2 tone, wings doors and boot. Leave the bonnet, roof, bumpers and rear quarters in white.

Car looks pretty gash anyway, if I do it it'll still look gash but maybe different gash.

I would say with your own guts, if you like that kind of wrap more than any other available options then go ahead, as long as you love the final result there is no wrong option.

That's weird paint failure.
Is that the original factory paint or has it been damaged and had a poor repaint?
If you wrap over that it will be clearly visible.

Original factory paint, failure on many white i20s. It's now 10yrs old Hyundai aren't interested, correction would involve a bare metal, glass out respray.
