The reason I ask is historically they have always been competitive on quotes but the last couple have been way out. I already insure a Honda E with them and they were cheaper than the comparison sites but insuring my wife's Q5 a couple of weeks ago, Adrian Flux quoted £1,700, on a comparison site it was £780.

This morning I was looking to insure my Alpine A110, I got a quote and subsequent policy for £420, Adrian Flux, are you sitting down..... quoted £4,000, yep you read that right £4,000 ! I asked him to check and he was adamant he had, he said he'd gone back to his Manager and that was the figure.

For reference I'm 60 years old, live in a safe area, have 12 yrs NCD (no actual claim for 30+ yrs), OK I've got some points but seriously. I paid £600 last year for an Ariel Atom !

Havent used them in 10 years or more. They dont seem to want to know unless your high risk. They were good when I was a young driver in a highish power car for instance.

They have always been useless, i've not used them in 25 years due to their sheer incompetence.

You've possibly just tipped into a different risk bucket related to your age and it's not one their brokers are competitive on.

Sounds like the random number generator is in full swing!

I’ve not used them for circa three years now - at that time, they were the most cost effective for my M140i but some way. They were ridiculous though when I swapped that for a 130i.

I use whoever's cheapest on the day. Have never found Flux competitive for 'normal' cars but they have been unbeatable for the last few years for US vans and pickups. I paid about £120 each for an '80s Dodge van and my Ram 1500 pick up. 2nd one is an agreed value policy too.

Having vowed to never darken their door about 10yrs ago, I've just insured with them again as they were the only company I tried who were knowledgeable about what I had, agreed to insure it without and issues, were very helpful and quoted a really good price. So credit where credit is due, they've redeemed themselves thus far...

I wonder if the 25 year remark speaks volumes. 25 years ago there were only a few ‘ classic’ or specialised/ restricted mileage insurers. However, Flux appeared to grow and grow and become more generalist and , at least in feel, more corporate. When I had mundane classics - bangers, really- like Beetles and Heralds, Flux and a few others were reasonable when most insurers didn’t understand such cars. Fast forward to recently, and I was doing that tedious job of phoning round for quotes, and the first voice to answer came up: “Hello, Adrian Flux” in a melodious female voice…. but I wasn’t trying to contact them!

I'm with AF for my stage 1 Golf R. Just renewed for £393 fully comp, all mods declared, myself and wife named drivers (both 50). Dropped by £4 since last year.

Can't complain ??

No. That age-related risk bracket usually comes after 80 years old, certainly not 60.

My AF renewal jumped up by eighty quid. Gave renewals a call and went through the details again, AF did a quick search and…twenty quid less than last year. Thanks Chris at AF.

Never used them as I think I used to get poor quotes from them for a highly modified Focus RS, went with Greenlight for a few years then moved over to A-Plan (Now Howden) when Greenlight's quotes started to get silly.

At the time i was 21 and running a peugeot 309 GTi goodwood, swapping from one insurer to Flux. They sent me a letter saying i needed to send in my NCB paperwork, which as i had just done thay presumed there was just a crossover with the post.

A week or so later i get another letter saying i had so many days in which to send it in or else my new policy would be cancelled, so i called them and after an eternity on hold spoke to someone and said my NCB was sent in literally a couple of days after taking the policy out and they should have had it by then. the woman then says oh yeah we've probably had it but we have about a months backlog in thei post room.

Thngs didnt get any better and i left them at the first oppurtunity.

I've never seen Flux as a mainstream insurer, I had a track car that was tricky to get cover for and they gave me cover for a very reasonable price but they've never been competitive for any of my usual run of the mill stuff.

Same here. I used them my first year with the Elise, never again.

I had thought a specialist car would be more complex to insure and AF certainly delivered on that. At renewal time the cost was massively up, so I gave a high street name a go. Could not have been simpler, just like insuring any other car.

That's odd as I've been with Greenlight for 5yrs+ and the renewal is always within 10% of what it was the previous year, so I've not seen any silly quotes yet (I would start comparing elsewhere if it ever went above £500)

Flux I used plenty of times when I was younger, but don't even bother checking any more since they became less competitive.

I've recently had a quote from them,£89 to insure my kit car. Not sure i can be asked to spend time trying to get a better offer than that.

Mine shot up quite a bit, couple hundred if I remember, think it might have been round the time they supposedly stopped taking new business with Focus RS's as they were getting stolen quite regularly around the same time.

Same here on a heavily modified mini, would never touch them again.
