I have never noticed this until today when I went to check when the MOT expires on the 996, and saw that it’s registered as a diesel…

Obviously I should get this corrected, how best to go about it?

Also curious as to how on earth this was registered as such.

Was the plate previously on a diesel? Not sure if it could be some private plate weirdness.

What does the v5 say?

if the V5c is correct, then i'd leave it.

if the v5c isnt correct, then i'd write to the DVLA and inform them it should be petrol, not a diesel. not that it should make much difference, the road tax for a 1998 car will be based only on engine size anyway.

Are you sure it isn't? The noise they make at idle suggests it might be.

I've looked up the reg with the 2 vehicle check apps I have on my phone. Bizarrely, one says it's petrol (Check Car Details app), the other says it's diesel (Vehicle Check app)! Clearly some wires have been crossed somewhere.

just fill up with a 50 / 50 mix of petrol and diesel the engine will figure out which one it wants and be fine

It was born a petrol but now identifies as a diesel. Don’t discriminate just because it wants to use the other pumps at the service station.

LOL

Is it 'taxed' cheap as a diesel?

Just ping them an email.

A couple of years back I noticed that my Range Rover correctly showed as petrol on the DVLA ‘MOT history’ lookup, but as diesel on when you just went to view the ‘MOT status’.

Sent them an email and they corrected it in a couple of weeks.

Worth a thread of its own actually - registration cock-ups.
