I always thought I’d never want a glass roof, I don’t want to look at the moon or have the sun shining on my bonce so they seemed completely pointless to me, certainly not worth paying extra for. However my current car came with one at the trim level I required, so I had little choice in the matter. However now I see one big advantage - no need to worry about bird poo on the roof affecting the paint, it can just be cleaned off when I get round to it. Still not worth paying extra for but it’s nice to have.

One of my colleagues was quoted £1500 to replace a cracked glass roof. He was highly unimpressed that it was not covered by his insurance.jamei303 said:

This is Pistonheads. You have omitted the most significant detail!I like the pan roof in the Merc as well. However the blind is mostly shut though, because it feels like a greenhouse if you leave the blind open though. If I'm carrying more passengers than usual, then I will open the blind though, because as said it properly brightens the inside of the car up.
I've got 2 other cars that are 2 seater Roadsters...and they are much better than a glass roof in this current nice weather I reckon!

Glass roofs (with a sunblind) are great so long as they only let in light (and if you so choose, air) but not water... once you get into shed territory, it's always a bit of a gamble on the last bit...

They are to be fair. So that is why I've got a carbon roof instead in the M4. All joking aside, I always enjoyed growing up with cars with sunroofs back in the 70's/80's. Then they died off quite a lot because air conditioning seemed to replace them. However they do seem to be getting more popular again now though.
