Now I don't want to be a Karen because I know these delivery drivers get peanuts and are gig economy drivers but Jesus Christ, they take the piss with their driving. They've taken over my town (London suburb) and seem incapable of learning how to drive.

They all seem too scared to overtake and filter traffic so they tailgate your left/blindside for ages and then undertake. This isn't an isolated incident, it seems to happen with 90% of them.

Yesterday at midday I was walking past a pizza shop and I noticed two of them outside chilling in their full gear and drinking cans of wine and waiting for deliveries- WTF!

What's drinking cans? Beer? Cola? Or are you saying they are riding drunk?

Or can they not have a break between deliveries? I'm not sure what you are getting at - sorry!

Pull over and let them past. I live in SW London and just notice how many risks they take. I hope they're on the donor register.

This is what happens when their time is directly related to the money they earn. The quicker they get deliveries done, the more money they make. An extra minute here or there might make them miss the next job available.

Most of these near me seem to ride on L plates, indicating CBT levels of training which is woefully inadequate for the amount of riding they're doing. It boggles my mind that, at 18, you could have zero road experience, pass a CBT then ride professionally and earn a living. A CBT comprises of some basic manoeuvring skills and about 2 hours on the road. There's no way in hell you're equipped to take on the roads in that capacity. It should have a minimum requirement of a full licence in whatever vehicle they're using to deliver.

It's well known that their riding standards are by and large dreadful. Anything from poor parking, poor filtering and poor road manners right up to speeding, cruising through red lights, using phones, and (particularly near me) riding the wrong way into a car park on a pavement.

In your post, I assume you mean the cans they were drinking from were alcoholic? That should be reported to the police. Otherwise, I wouldn't begrudge them waiting outside a pizza place. They might have been waiting for orders.

I saw one the other week riding down the hard shoulder of the M11, L plates doing around 30mph.
I don’t see how you can be employed as a professional driver when you only have a provisional license.

Considering how expensive it was to get insured for hire and reward as a London Motorcycle Courier back in the 80s it makes me wonder if any of this mob have licences let alone insurance.

Can't see an insurance company properly covering a guy on L plates for working professionally.

Some of the food and delivery platforms recognise this and have insurance schemes available. Of course the rider has their own Fully Comp or TPF&T road risk insurance. Then when they are delivering they can use the platform schemes to cover them whilst they are delivering either per hour or per day to ensure they are covered for Class 1 Business Food Delivery use. It's not actually that expensive - there's an Amazon Flex Delivery driver on YouTube called Auto Hustles and he does a breakdown of his costs. The additional insurance costs him under £1.50 - £2.00 per shift.

And of course the cycling riders don't need insurance, and the grey area of electric cyclists and their souped up power levels that really should be insured.

A couple of times I've seen them overtake the queue up to this junction and pull up in the middle of the right hand lane to turn right, obviously thinking that the exit is one way. It isn't yikes

Another point to add is that most of them rent or sell their accounts to others. I've had quite a few deliveries where the driver was a woman or a different ethnicity on the app than the person delivering.

Does that matter, you’ve got your pizza/Chinese/Indian delivered to you door to save you having to go and collect it yourself.

I've been motorbike commuting through Reading (has heavy rush hour traffic at both ends of the day) for 28 years, am a decent rider, no offs, I make good progress, never had any beef with other bikers.

Just lately I've had skirmishes with a couple of idiot moped riders for Deliveroo or Just Eat, either tailgating me literally inches off my reg plate, making stupid overtakes, generally riding like clowns. I'm amazed more of them are not killed.

I thought that looked familiar , then I read the road name .
I used that going home from work for 16 years and had car drivers do the same as you mentioned.

Yes, it does, I don't want unqualified drivers putting their lives or others at risk for a stupid takeaway. I'll reiterate, it's not their fault it's the fault of these gig economy contracts and the government giving so much power to these start-ups.

Having spent time in the likes of Thailand where there are 1000x the amount of mopeds, which also ride through red lights, go the wrong way up roads etc., I'm always amazed how few accidents there are. We look like a bunch of fairies in comparison, and perhaps are so risk-adverse that we worry too much.

Not to say it doesn't annoy me too, but I've never actually witnessed an accident with one of these guys. Maybe we're wrong, and in fact, they are highly skilled? biggrin

They are truly awful round here, so close on your tail that it’s game over for them if a kids ball bounces out / dog runs etc

I tend to let them go

I suspect many of the people at the local migrant hotels are renting someone’s credentials to do delivery round here

I know kez the guru from this thread was renting out Uber eats (or similar) accounts a while back

There’s a long history of schoolkids (including me) delivering papers on bicycles, so presumably any delivery work carried out on foot or on anything legally classed as a bicycle would be hard to clamp down on, even if the riders do drink cans of wine (???).
However the situation is surely very different if motor vehicles are involved? There have been numerous cases of for example, harvest students getting their employers in a great deal of legal trouble regarding training and supervision, even when they have been fully qualified for the vehicle they are driving. It must be only a matter of time before a learner on a moped brings equal or greater trouble to the management (at all levels) of something like Uber Eats?

Speed is a lot slower.
Mindset is a LOT different I think much more live and let live… mai bpen rai

I drove a van through London today and the amount of deliveroo scooters that looked like they were attempting suicide was unreal especially at traffic lights.

If this was a takeaway curry forum then it wouldn't matter. Given it's a motoring forum it's a matter of legitimate interest. And if you don't grasp why then wait until a driver/rider using someone else's account hits you and you need to make a claim.
