This is a car I designed and built at my home workshop. I call it the R2.
The design plays off of the 1930's Auto Union GP Cars blended with Some Schuppan Porsche 962 and a hint of UFO. It is powered by a 1995 Porsche 993 mid engine 3.6L non vario engine using Motec with ITB’s and a GT plenum (Apx 320HP). The car weighs around 1700LB. Power is transmitted through a Porsche 915 gearbox. Stopping through Brembo brakes (mid 80’s 911 fitment). We milled custom aluminum uprights with A arm suspension. The chassis is a Stainless monocoque.
I used a windshield from a Porsche 962. I sketched the design in 2016. The body was initially sketch with on paper, then rendered by my friend Alberto Hernandez to give it a more realistic look and proportion. I used that rendering as a guide to cut cardboard and ultimately plywood for a body buck. I then transferred the shape into an aluminum tube buck which acted as a guide for the hand formed aluminum coachwork you see here. The techniques used to shape the aluminum are traditional European methods such as hammering sheet aluminum over tree stumps, leather bags and the English wheel.
I made and stitched the interior as well. The side and rear windows are polycarbonate. It is an absolute blast to drive
