For my 3 children I found Admiral acceptably priced accepting that when they passed their tests the additional premiums would all be relatively painful.
No black boxes though and all managed to get their first full years NCB despite only having full licences for no more than a few months as it turned out.
Their online systems / portal was excellent and having then 3 cars insured I managed to get my eldest to act as administrator and sort all 3 under a multi car policy.

-adding yourself and your partner as named drivers
-limit the mileage
- increasing the excess
I generally found Admiral the most competitive for my daughters.

They were pretty good on price - £1,500 for a 1.2 Fiesta and weren't particularly draconian with the black box. They have an initial limit of 10k miles but you can buy more or earn up to 100 miles a month for free if you drive nicely.
The second year premiums dropped to about £1,000 with them.
Defintitely add yourself if you have a clean licence and no claims.
