Car tax direct debit- do I have to set this up myself?

My car just passed its MOT this morning, it was on a SORN.

I’ve stupidly just realised I can’t tax the car online as the dvla system still shows the car as no MOT, The post office will be shut when I finish work, so am I able to send someone on my behalf to set the direct debit up in my name or will I have to do this?

It should pop up as MOTd as soon at it's done. I've found out online before being told it's passed.

Something isn't right if it hasn't updated yet?

Taxing it on GOV.UK can be done at any time of day, however, including setting up a DD.

Weirdly if you go on MOT history check, it's instantaneous. Checking the tax and MOT status can take a day or so. Which is odd because they're both. GOV.UK.

Anyway, you should be able to tax it online as soon as it passes it's MOT.

My car passed its MOT on Tuesday, and I was able to take it off SORN and tax it online immediately afterwards.
The MOT status updated on the DVLA sites instantly, but had to wait overnight for the tax status to update.
