Hi all

Related to another thread where I'm asking about S4s, can anyone recommend warranty providers they've actually used?

I know someone who's stepson who bought a warranty for £999 where the limit was £999....

Manufacturer approved used warranty provider or don’t bother. You might as well burn the money and use the warranty paperwork to wipe your arse with as that’s all there useful for.

Read lordflashearts thread on his M5 engine seizure. Was on here but it got pulled because ???????.

I think it’s still on the M5board form. Basically they lied, falsified paperwork, edited an engineers report to alter his finding, ignored the ombudsman, lost at court and still failed to payout. I think in the end they only paid out after 2 years when he absolutely refused to go away and started legal proceedings to force the warranty company to pay out or he was sending in bailiffs to their office.

I’ve never managed to get a payout yet. 3 attempts.

I think you’ll be very lucky to find such a warranty company. Even manufacturer’s warranty’s can be very difficult to get a proper payout. You may find the odd good news story, but don’t expect too many!

Yup, just to add to this. There are no decent third party aftermarket warranties worth paying for regardless of what anyone says. Instead put the premium towards a maintenance fund.

Exactly. And they have handily worked out how much you need to put away per month!

I think your best bet is to buy a car that is reliable in the first place, then you won't need any supplementary warranties.

It always amazes me the blind faith put into manufacturers warranty, they will avoid warranty work as often as they can.

There is no such thing as a cast iron warranty, recently saw a claim refused for a single service being 100 miles approx too late, the customer claimed it was because the booking took too long, but got nowhere, except for 2 recovery charges, one there, one back.
I was supposed to recover a vehicle early this week, non starter, going back for waranty work, then they said it is postponed because they have no workshop space, for a month. Customer service and goodwill is alive and kicking biglaugh

Depends on the manufacturer. There are some out there whose approved used vehicle warranties are actually provided by third parties. That the manufacturer sold you the policy doesn’t mean that the actual provider won’t try to wriggle.

Not 100% true though. I had jaguar extended warranty on an XFR-S that paid out £10k for a top end engine rebuild because of a failed £5.90 part.

How does that example make any warranty cast iron?

A part failed, did damage, no excuse to avoid paying out, if everything else was box ticked.

Some people have good experiences, others bad ones, but you can be sure, if there is any way to avoid work on warranty, it will be found.

Not sure about Audi, but I have a service package and near full extended warranty on my Passat which is 4 years old. I think I paid a discounted rate of c.£30 a month for servicing and warranty. The car had to go in to VW for a free checkup to ensure FSH/cambelt etc before the warranty was activated.

Any other warranty - no way Jose.

Edit to add - This is what I have - 2 years servicing and 2 years warranty from VW

https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-service...

Scroll down to the navy box 80% down for clearer details - currently £37.50pm, but VW run a 25% off every spring which is why I bought it.

Even manufacturer warranties aren't much use when they tell you it'll be 12 weeks till they can book you in, and that they'll need your car for 2 whole days to diagnose.
For a fault that you already know yourself will be one of two things, and could verify which yourself with 5 minutes and the dealer equipment.
Had it fixed for £40 by a local auto electrician instead, he'd asked for £20.
F**k you BMW.

I purchased an Audi sq5 six years old from a Ford main dealer with a Ford 3 year warranty cost me £900. DPF failed right near the end, thinking no way they going to cover a new one (3k fitted) .
Paid out no problem, mind you its expired now and they wanted £1100 for an extra years cover.
