Hi, I couldn't find a more relevant sub-forum to post to. Will happily move post if there is a better place for it

A friend of mine (no really!) had his car side grazed by a council refuse truck he other day when his car was legally parked on the road. The contractor admitted liability and will repair at its cost and supply a replacement vehicle

The question is whether to report to his own insurer. I know that under the duty of 'absolute good faith' he is obliged to do just that. I had similar happen to me 12 years ago. I reported it and my insurance increased 25% across the board (checking price comparison sites) and it took years to get it down again. So the insurance cartel will take its revenge on the innocent driver if you do that.

My question is whether the repair to his vehicle will be logged on an industry database? If so then his insurer could easily check whether his vehicle had been subject to any claim by a third party. In which case for practical reasons he must disclose. But given the way the cartel behaves I do not feel much moral obligation to advise candour. If he were to sue the council contractor for the inevitable increase in his insurance as a result of the collision would there by any chance of success?

Many thanks for any thoughts

Sorry for the brevity, but in simple terms; yes to the first question & no to the second.

I had a similar issue, and let the 3rd party deal with the claim in its entirety..

I have since checked with mib.org under the freedom of information act on what information is held on me and my car on there database and it came back zero, nothing, zilch. (this was about 6 months after the incident)

That’s just my experience.
