Car Insurance Quote; New Scummy Behaviour!

No surprises really, but I`ve not seen this particular scummy behaviour. From Quidco, powered by Moneysupermarket.
Defaults to cheapest per month, but results 1 and 3 are £100 more than #2 and there are 25 more quotes which are cheaper
(They also both require mileage trackers, which is also a new one for me!)

Not sure if its Quidco/MSM being shady or the insurance companies gaming the comparison sites.

If you were asking it to base it on monthly payments it is 100% correct, it will ignore the deposit amount.

Simple solution is to sort on annual premium.

Not sure you're comparing like with like... #1 includes more extras and has a lower excess.

For the mileage trackers (seems to be a new initiative) I don't understand how the quote is calculated anyway as it says you only pay for the miles you drive.

Not sure why it’s “ scummy “ behaviour as such although as a comparison checker it’s not really looking at apples for apples and certainly not quickly given the excess and cover differentials and indeed the mileage tracker requirements.

I would guess at that being the result of insurance companies gaming the comparison sites, as you suggest, to get their product to the top of the list.

Also agree with poster above that it's not an issue if you just set it to compare annual premium. I bet loads leave it on monthly figure though. The information's all there so it's not dishonest, it is irritating though in my opinion. Hopefully the comparison sites re-jig the way settings/products are shown to nullify that tactic.

If someone is getting tricked by that they probably can't afford insurance anyway as they will have already sent all their money to a Nigerian lawyer so that they can receive their inheritance.

Not sure of your circumstances, but I’d love to be paying £184.45 a year for car insurance. Plus a potential £45 back from Quidco!!!!
