I have recently got a compressor and tyre inflator attachment and it works perfectly on my 1963 classic which has relatively new rubber valves. However when I clip the inflator to my 1981 classic which has all metal valves,it does not seal and the tyre loses air. When looking down the bore of the valve it looks the same as the rubber ones,but I can only inflate it with a bicycle pump or from a petrol station. Does anyone know why.

Measure both valves with a vernier, I suspect the metal is thinner?

Try a different inflator, or change the adaptor that fits on the end of the hose.

I was told by quick fit that there is only one type of valve used .

My DeWalt inflator doesn't have the click down valve connection as it uses a threaded screw down type which works really well. As a result I have never had that annoyance of losing lost air when attaching or detaching

Still measure, I expect there is a tolerance issue. Some
Of the air attachments for compressors are Chinese cheap rubbish.

I've just replaced the 'head' on my bike pump. The clamping rubber wears over time and stops gripping.
