Is it weird to buy number plate of someone else’s name

I always quite fancied having a 'V8 WOO' type plate on n EV or 3 cylinder. Or maybe a 'L4MBO' on my Ferrari . Just for my own minor amusement.

So I support having a Jon plate despite your name not being Jon.

maybe a little weird but then I think its odd buying a plate in the first place. But one without any meaning to you? if your name was John then its still wrong as the H is missing and you'd also be asked what the 76 represents

imagine proudly showing it to a friend, what do you think they will say?

go for it if it makes you happy but I expect the money could be used for something useful and enjoyable

A friend of mine has had a plate on his cars for the past 20 or so years that bears no resemblance to his name.

It was the cheapest non-Irish, non-age related, plate he could find at the time.

Wanted it purely to disguise the age (or more to the point, the newness) of his daily.

I do snigger seeing an M3 plate, or V8 as you say, on a family wagon. Clearly used to have the fun car and had to sell it, but kept the plate, because maybe...!

I live part of the year in Rye, Sussex. Plenty of cars locally with RYE plates. Moving east into Kent you’ll find plenty of cars around Ashford/Maidstone sporting “M20” plates.

Honouring your local town is one thing but doing the same for your local motorway a bit odd - no ?
