Genesis reveals bonkers GV60 MIV Concept

That's MIV for 'Mountain Intervention Vehicle' - in case you hadn't guessed

There can’t have been many people who had Genesis down as perhaps the most interesting manufacturer of 2025. But with testing and development underway for both a top-tier sportscar racing programme as well as the first of a range of Magma performance derivatives, Genesis is doing all the things you need to do to get noticed. And now it’s put a GV60 on tracks, largely because it’s a cool idea and because it’s possible.

‘The Genesis GV60 Mountain Intervention Vehicle concept was revealed this week at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos’, reads the press release, ‘highlighting the brand’s technological innovations and exceptional design.’ Genesis is as likely to put snow tracks on the GV60 options list as it is a twin-turbo V8, of course, but this concept can serve to demonstrate that it’s willing to have a bit of fun. Like Nissan did, once upon a time. And the MIV helps remind the world that the GV60 is one of the more distinctive bits of EV SUV design. Though snowy snaps in the Alps with a chopper will always help that impression. As does a whopper of a light bar.

Beyond the most obvious modifications (including carbon arch extensions to prevent track damage to both people and car), the Mountain Intervention Vehicle benefits from a chunky roof rack, and a whole host of modular attachment points in the boot keeps the emergency kit safe. The GV60’s Vehicle to Load functionality has a proper purpose here (rather than powering coffee machines on YouTube vids), because it can power proper auxiliary devices.

Why this GV60 is being shown to the world’s wealthiest in Davos isn’t quite clear (beyond the snow), but there is a precedent, as both the Genesis X Concept and Snow Speedium Concept have been showcased in Switzerland. While designed ‘for rescue support tasks in rugged terrains and challenging weather conditions’, it seems unlikely that the MIV will be used in anger any time soon. It would certainly make for an interesting anecdote from the ski holiday. Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke said: “Genesis prides itself on creating safe, well-designed luxury vehicles that are audacious, progressive and distinctly Korean. The GV60 MIV Concept expands this vision of comfort and care.” The solitary example for sale on PH is already the right colour to make a Mountain Intervention Vehicle homage…

Can you imagine being stuck up a mountain injured and desperately waiting for rescue, only to discover the mountain rescue team only have a battery powered Hyundai with limited boot space for rescue equipment? Can’t help thinking I would want them to have a helicopter and a more appropriate tracked vehicle that doesn’t have limited range in cold conditions…

The "Great" and the "Good" head over to a very expensive Swiss resort for a jolly, often at taxpayers expense (though you can hear the rustle of brown envelopes from here).
Why don't they go to a Mumbai slum and see what true poverty means? Or how about conferencing over Zoom and not emitting all that CO2 they keep haranguing the rest of us about? Or why not hold it in Yemen and not come back?

Genesis marketing exercise for exposure - nothing to be taken seriously or be taken to get someone out of serious trouble (hopefully not!)

Some thoughts here on tires vs. snow tracks in rugged terrains and challenging weather conditions:

Isn’t it just ace. Looks like tremendous fun and I’d love to have a blast in that. One of the best car days out I’ve had is snowy off-roading in a Wrangler, this likely takes it up a few notches.

Had deep snow a couple of weeks ago and Waitrose car park was awful. This would have been ace for that.

Oh great, it can't be too long before I start seeing posts on LinkedIn about Genesis helping the poor in Mumbai with a snow rescue GV60. I hope there's AI involved in it too.....

Genesis are Hyundai.

Are they the new Toyota? They certainly seem to be making some interesting things...

Yes. Imagine the horror, having 2 fractured legs, arm muscles teared, head wound. Then this thing arrives. They put you in the back. And while being put in the back you notice there's only 60 miles left. The horror. Horror. Never will you reach the base of the mountain, where further help or an ambulance will be waiting.

That's OK, by the time it gets to the bottom of mountain gravity and regenerative braking will have charged it back up again.
