Of course G-Power makes a 900hp BMW M8 Comp
Hurricane RR upgrade adds another 275hp, opens up 205mph potential

It sounds like a daft question, but remember the BMW M8? Probably you do, but it definitely feels like a forgotten M car of late. Yet all three bodystyles remain on the BMW configurator ready for anyone courageous enough. Probably the furore around the latest M2/M3/M5 (delete as appropriate, or choose all three), plus the fact it’s on the old architecture now, has accounted for the lack of commotion. Plus there’s the relative lack of controversy around the M8, and what should therefore be considerable appeal: it’s like an old M5 to drive, the one that folk now apparently can’t get enough of, in a much more suave range of bodystyles.
Anyway, G-Power’s new work on the M8 should ensure it’s being discussed for a little while at least. Because it has 900hp, and the Competition model never felt slow with 625hp. There’s now 774lb ft as well, up significantly from the standard 553lb ft, thanks to a serious raft of upgrades; we’ve become familiar of late with the B58/S58 pair of 3.0-litre sixes, but there are clearly gains to be had from the S63 4.4 twin-turbo V8 as well.
The pistons are now forged, as are the conrods, and there have been ‘extensive turbo modifications’ for the pair of blowers. The intercoolers are larger and the exhaust shoutier; in fairness to the G-Power Deeptone system, that’s not all it does - because back pressure and temperature are also reduced - but it seems likely that a proper V8 rumble will be the main takeaway. G-Power says a Hurricane RR 8 Series is capable of 205mph. Presumably that applies to Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible, although it isn’t confirmed.

Those who like the M8 for its subtle, classy fast car aesthetic may not be convinced by G-Power’s cosmetic revamp, though the German tuner is nothing if not consistent in its approach. The rear wing, 21-inch wheels and the carbon grille make the 3,600hp awesome foursome - their words, not ours, promise - immediately identifiable as G-Power creations.
The work won’t come cheap, of course, because they’re rebuilding an M engine here with forged bits. We’ve probably all got a bit used to the B58 being software changes away from a million horsepower. An M8 can be made into a 700hp car with just ECU interrogation for a couple of thousand euros, though for the full monty the bill will be more like €60k (£50k at current rates). The engine work accounts for about half of that, then there are the punchier turbos to think about, the new exhaust and downpipes, plus intercoolers.
Still, with all that to account for, you wouldn’t have to worry about spending more on lairy leather or the wheels. The big BMW does depreciate, too, so something like this Voodoo Blue two-door could have a lot of work done and still be less than £100,000. And don’t pretend like you wouldn’t fancy a go in a 900hp Gran Coupe…

But, as the Chief constable says in this mornings ‘Speeding news’ :
"Choosing to drive above those [singposted] limits is reckless, selfish and completely unacceptable."
So there you have it, more power for the same 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 limits in the UK? reckless, completely selfish to boot.
Quite right.
It feels very much like be careful what you wish for.
Yep... I got old.

What has happened is we spent decades yearning for more and more power, because in the main, cars were a bit underpowered.
It was hugely expensive to get anything remotely fast when I was first driving, I was very pleased with myself when, at 19, I ascended from 73 bhp in a Capri 1.6LS to the heady heights of 110 bhp in a MK1 Golf GTi, it felt mental, now I have almost three times that power in something not much bigger and it is considered a bit meh in some cases.
We havent stopped with the power increase, or demanding them but technology in terms of fuel injection, turbos, ecus and now electric motors means they can supply us with cars with 1000 bhp or more, still expensive but you can get a hot hatch with 300 and for a few grand have it at 500 or more.
People judge cars on bhp and performance as its an old habit, its all distilled down into drag races, YouTube channels like CarWow do amazing drag races, really well done and satisfies your curiosity of whether X is faster than Y, if X is faster then Y looks lame and slow, which is weird as it could be a 600 bhp super saloon which in isolation is very much not slow, just slightly slower than Y in an all out drag race, doesnt address any other factors that went into designing it or how it otherwise drives just X is great and Y is s
t.And social media "Well I have a Stage 9 RS nutter 12 litre, will gap your whatever" and people saying that something like a Golf R is "Slow as f
k", nope, will still do sixty in under five seconds and 150 odd mph, but as something faster exists that is no longer fast. Its got daft, I came home last night when it was quiet and dry, gave my car a bit of stick and easily, in not time got myself into lengthy ban speeds, I have a third of the power of this tuned BMW, ok less weight but still, 900 bhp vs 2 tons is manically fast, the standard car already is.
I just wonder where I would ever give a standard one some stick, last nights little jaunt would end up with me probably nearer 160 mph, or feeling a bit frustrated.
I think you need a certain amount of power, that push in the back and that a car is fast, but 900 bhp is kind of labouring a point for me, you may think its great and have somewhere to use it but would take something else, samller and nimbler, looking at a Cayman this weekend, mid engined, enough power (300) and great handling, but its slow apparently, will only do 170 mph

Its like we have overshot with engine power, like playing Blackjack and have kept twisting past 21 to like 60, sure, we have more but we havent really won.
Still, wouldnt mind a shot in one !

also just realised it looks like the wing is not wide enough, I really dislike it visually when they are not very close to the width of the car

Irrespective of what you see and read here.... Out in the real world, times have definitely changed...
Yep you got old... As we all will do one day.

If all your mates had 300-350hp cars, you would probably feel king of the hill with 400hp, so it's all relative too.
I think a better solution is to have a 75hp car and a 500hp one. The 75hp car will provide the resetting of expectations so that the 500hp is much more enjoyable, every time it's used.
