Cheap American Motors?

I don't think its the price that puts most people off American cars. if you look at the list of best selling cars in the US last year (first list I found on Google https://www.carpro.com/blog/the-25-best-selling-ve... you'll see that the actual American made ones are pretty much all massive pickups. Things that size might make sense in Montana but slightly less so in Tesco's car park in Wolverhampton.
Considering the ICE ban coming in the not too distant future and fines for manufacturers who don't hit the requirements of the XEV mandate, I can't see it making an awful lot of difference. What exactly is there that's made in the USA that would actually sell in any kind of numbers for them to offer right hand drive.

We already have the Mustang and I’m glad we do. For everything else, there’s no point them making them in rhd. Sure volumes would be low, but it wasn’t so long ago you could by Chryslers and there are still some interesting things to be had for those of us who don’t want an EV yet. Large engine petrol cars have all but disappeared here. As for net zero, sure European manufacturers have geared up for it but Americans haven’t and who knows if it will happen in 2030 anyway? There are other rhd markets like Australia and South Africa that could help tip the balance, it has in the past.Edited by Len Clifton on Friday 14th February 10:57
A 20% drop in price for Mustangs and Vettes sounds good, and sounds enough that you would expect to see it feed through meaningfully into the list prices.
I believe BMW make all their X5s in South Carolina for the European market and perhaps X3s and 4s too. If so, this German company could benefit more from such a change than any of the "American" ones.

Corvettes are all LHD.AFAIK it is also only 10%, not 22.5%.
Unlikely to be changed anyway.

Corvettes are all LHD.AFAIK it is also only 10%, not 22.5%.

This is a good point, it looks like perhaps the 22% applies to pickup trucks only, cars are at 10% which is the standard 'rest of world' import tariff.Unlikely to be changed anyway.
So any reduction from 10% is unlikely to be a game-changer in actual sales prices of cars.
