New Alpine A110 R and GTS are the final salute

There are 12 months left to order a new A110 before the EV arrives - here's why you absolutely should

It really is happening, then: after seven years on sale - transforming the world of mid-engined sports cars in the process - the Alpine A110 is in its final 12 months. 2025 may mark 70 years since Jean Rédélé created Alpine, and therefore this is a year of celebration to some extent, but it also marks the last full calendar year of petrol-powered A110s. It will go off sale in 2026, with the electric version - the final piece of Alpine’s Dream Garage puzzle, alongside the A290 and A390 - arriving not long after.

Not a small moment by any stretch, and for its final year on sale in the UK the Alpine A110 range comprises three models, two of them new: the entry-level £55k A110, with the familiar 252hp, then an A110 GTS and A110 R 70. The former, as you might have guessed, replaces the GT and the S as one bonus bundle of them both; it combines a 300hp version of the 1.8-litre turbo with the S chassis but ‘the everyday comfort of the A110 GT’. There are also R-inspired racy bits available on the extras list, including an aerokit of splitter, skirts and spoilers as well as ‘GT Race’ 18s on Michelin Cup 2s. There’s a new ‘GTS Grey’ leather interior, plus optional race seats.

Perhaps most interesting for the GTS, though - because plenty of that stuff ranks as familiar by now - is the introduction of five new Alpine colours for it. Peacock Blue and Acropolis Orange are heritage hues, joined on the palette by Steel Grey, Eclipse Blue and Solar Orange, all three of which are matt. The GTS is priced from £67,311.

Just in case the A110 R 70’s anniversary edition status wasn’t clear enough, just 770 of them will be made globally. Of those, a French tricolour series of 70 units each will also be offered, with the same number of Glacier White, Caddy Blue and Seismic Red - as per Jean’s first A106s from 1955 - getting a 70-years-of-Alpine logo on the roof. You’ve probably noticed by now. Besides the French fancy versions, the A110 R 70 will be sold in 10 colours, which will be great news to those uninspired by the original R line-up - even without Alpine telling us what the paints are. Seemingly borrowing a little from the approach employed for the Ultime, there’s a good amount of personalisation possibilities for the 70, including seven colours for the Brembo calipers and four ‘interior design schemes’ from Alpine’s Atelier customisation programme.

A lot else is familiar from the standard A110 R; no bad thing given what a mid-engined masterclass it’s always been. So there’s carbon absolutely everywhere, standard Michelin Cup 2s, an Akrapovic exhaust and carbon wheels. New 70th anniversary logos and a plaque show off its special status. Which has been deemed special enough for a £103,345 price tag to be slapped on the A110 R 70 for UK customers.

CEO Philippe Krief said: “Alpine turns 70! 70 years of passion, excellence and innovation that we intend to build on for the next 70 years. We will celebrate this anniversary throughout the year with all our customers, clubs, fans ... past, present and future. To mark the occasion, our iconic A110 is available as an exceptional limited edition, the A110 R 70. It is part of the new A110 range, which will be available for the next 12 months before passing the baton to the future electric A110.” So time really is running out. Orders will be open from early March - form an orderly queue. But maybe elbow your way to the front...

I’d read there was going to be a GTS replacing the GT this year.
If be interested to know if it’s the exact same suspension as the S, or is it a little softer?

There's two 23 reg cars for sale in the pistonheads classifieds for 43k which makes you wonder why you'd part with 53k before options for a new one. New car smell?

I'm a fan of the A110. Given the opportunity I'd want an R over the "standard" one, but have always felt it looks like a bit of a mess - the wing in particular just spoils the look for me. I know the goal of a more lightweight and track-focussed car isn't to look good, but I've always felt it's a shame the R didn't look better. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder though and no doubt others will think it's great as it is.

I wonder why those two cars which are 2 manufacturing years older and with 6864 and 10095 miles on the clock are cheaper than a brand new one. Strange that.

I think that's quite an easy one to justify, even if there's no upgrade for the MY2025 model. Some people want new, untarnished cars that they are responsible for bedding-in the engine following the manufacturer reccomendations.

The main issue is they aren't selling at list, even with the attractive finance options and added discounts/free options.

I have been contemplating one for past 6 months, but can't quite get the Deal I want/think they are worth.

Guess the current market doesn't rate it as 55ks worth new yet alone 65/75 and 100k..... Doesn't help that you can get a V6 Emira or 6cyl Cayman GTS for 55k now.

Saying thay I still want one and will continue looking. A well specced 23 plate for 45k seems better value must admit.

That was one of the reasons I chose to buy new.
There are often very low mileage cars that are under two years old. I don’t imagine people who plan to trade in the car while still under warranty spent the first 1800 miles driving to the approved running-in procedure.
My plan is to keep the car for many years past the standard warranty, so the long term health of the engine is important.

(But mostly I just wanted to treat myself with a new car, and was looking for reasons to justify it.)

To a lot of people £10k is more than reasonable for a car that's 2 years newer with minimal farts in the seats.

5k a year is a fairly average lease cost I don't think it's that unreasonable, many cars would kill for those residuals.

Hi,

Having owned an A110 for around 18 months I am firmly of the opinion now looking back that its a bit Meh !
Certainly not what I thought it would be and for me very much over hyped.

I bought new and lost £15k (on a base car) in 18 months so not only nothing particularly to write home about it also suffered depreciation above that I expected for a limited production run car that is the darling of the motor industry.

We all like different things I suppose. I love mine so much that the V8 Vantage and Tuscan were sold as they simply were not being used after the A110 arrived. Most of my driving is on A and B roads around North / Mid Wales where the A110s small size and lack of weight really come into their own - huge fun to drive hard but also refined and comfortable when just wanting to potter around

So you say they aren't selling at list, but you're not actually getting a discount?

Presume you mean Tuscan?

I did - I enjoy my driving and on the roads where I do most of it neither the Tuscan or the Vantage can hold a candle to the A110 - could not give a f*** about the badge.

The Tuscan was a more difficult car to let go off than the Vantage but can honestly say that I have not missed either of them

I think it also looks good in this blue, also the blue carbon window seems to soften the strange rear lines (to me)

ok the window looks strange from above.

the GTS looks cool with the normal window from the rear

also not bad from full side

The articles not clear but I assume the R has the same power output as the GTS ie 300 bhp?. An extra 36k seems a bit steep for some carbon bits an exhaust and a good old plaque. 103k plus options for a not particularly inspiring or crazy fast 1.8 4 pot turbo is pushing the boundaries a bit as well.

for me i like that it can be a shopping trolley as well as a fun sportscar. I like the 'meh' aspect. Porsches with rock hard suspension and insane tyre noise drove me nuts. I like that the spotscar car aspect of Alpines can fade in the background when you are not in the mood.
