Hi all,

First time on here, seeking for some advice/ help if possible

I have 2 seperate policies both with the same insurance company

Policy #1 - Range Rover Sport 2006 which I recently purchased the car, policy started on 25/01/2026
Have 10 years no claim on this policy, recently had an accident 15/02/2026, a deer came out of nowhere and I hit it at around 60mph so the car’s written off and I claimed on my own insurance, been offered the amount, accepted and money should be cleared this week.

Policy #2 - BMW 4 Series 2014, have 1 years no claim on. Policy started 03/02/2025, policy is currently still active and ongoing.

I recently received a letter stating that #Policy 1 will be cancelled within 14 days (the range rovers obviously been written off and obviously no longer exists) so I should either get another car and carry on insuring it/ policy gets cancelled by them.

My concern is when I come to get new insurance on a second car in future, I’’ll get asked the question “have you had insurance called or declined” because sometimes this answer makes a sky difference in price dependant on answer.

So the question is, am I better off cancelling #Policy 1 (RAnge Rover) myself so that it’s not classed as the company cancelling my policy. OR cancel # Policy 2 and then insure the BMW on #Policy 1?

Hope that all makes sense, thanks in advance!

Just call them and inform them you will not be replacing the Range Rover. Also confirm that it is that policy they are talking about.

Swap the BMW onto the one they're trying to cancel if you've still got valid no claims (presumably protected?)

Correct, no claims are protected.

So the better option is to cancel the bmw policy first and then insure the bmw onto the policy they’re trying to cancel right?

To answer the "have you ever had insurance cancelled?" question. You would say no. The policy won't have been cancelled in that way. It has paid out.

Almost. Call them up, give them the policy number of the RR policy, and tell them you want to insure a BMW in its place. Wait until that's all gone thru and you've had emailed certificate etc. Then call them, give them the original BMW policy no, and cancel it. You should get a refund as you've been claim free on that policy.

Either way expect to get shafted at renewal for the RR total loss claim.
