First accident in 30 yrs plus

I love to preach to everyone dont start looking right at a r/o until you are 100% sure the car in front has gone , last night the car in front went , I looked right & bang , she’d got out onto the r/0 and stopped
No accidents in 30 yrs plus , I haven’t even bothered to take out protected ncb as couldn’t see how I’d have an accident .
I guess it can happen to anyone but all those years & something as stupid as this .
I have a mate (really) that's been rear ended about 9 times in this exact same scenario. He's not a very decisive driver so is always dithering at junctions and roundabouts. I guess he's a prime example of why insurers claim that if you've been in an accident, regardless of fault you're statistically more likely to be in another and thus premiums go up

This, absolutely. The insurance companies can recognise these ‘no fault’ drivers that keep bing involved in collisions.(Accidents rarely happen. Collisions, as a result of inattentiveness/misjudgement, occur a lot.)

On the other hand I once shared a lift to work with someone who often drove into the back of cars in this situation. He once drove into the back of a bus as he thought it would pull away quicker. Mind you it took him 3 miles of driving home one day to realise the rear view mirror had fallen off the windscreen. I drove myself to work after that."couldn’t see how I’d have an accident"
You drive a car on the roads with millions of others piloted by drivers with immensely variable "skills", I always think its a marvel there arent more accidents based on the level of f

My last accident, about six years ago was a guy who had driven hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of mile as a professional driver, he did a U turn on a dual carriageway into my path, no indicator, from the right lane, he turned hard left to help his son whose car had broken down (for the third time apparently, just buy a new battery tight arse or get the bus !) He was gutted, sixty odd, nice chap and admitted responsibility.
We need to get past thinking we are infallible, we really arent, can all have an off day, misjudge something, make a mistake but the main thing is avoiding it as much as possible and how you hand it, dont beat yourself up, just learn from it.

It certainly can. Almost three years ago an on-coming driver turned right into our path and hit us head-on. Our car was a write-off and we were both hospitalised. O/H is still receiving treatment for her injuries.23 years since I got my license at 17, had never had an accident, and did exactly the same thing last month.
It sucks. Nobody harmed. Insurance were ok. I just feel like a pillock. The insurance co. decided my Mini I really liked was to be written off
