I’m unusually having to get a car done (I don’t use them often at all) today. Bloke wants £28 for inside and out! For a Nissan Note so not a big car. WTF. Northampton area

Days of 12 quid are long gone it seems

Why not do it yourself? It probably takes the same amount of time it takes to get your car to the car wash and wait around for it to get done.

Hand wash and wax is £10 near me.
Although I do have access to the valet bay at work so it can be free if I require.
My car is never thst disgusting that I need someone else to hoover it.
That only takes 10 mins on the drive with Henry

It's definitely increased in the cost vs performance stakes over the last few years. At the start 15-ish years ago the market got flooded initially so the cost was low and they all had to compete on performance, but now (where I live in Norfolk) the numbers are right back down so the costs have shot up yet the "skill/effort" of those doing job has plummeted, although I understand that the old adage of "your mileage may vary" is also true.

So near Kings Lynn its around £12-15 for a A6 sized car outside only or £18-22 for inside/outside.

Maybe they are no longer doing the laundry there and need to charge the full comercial rate to cover all costs like a real business.

A good proportion I see are run and operated by well dodgy people. Raided every now and then and you never see some of the staff again

What happened to the plague that used to try and shame/bully people into getting screens washed at traffic lights?

In a nutshell this ^

With all my cars they are clean enough that the interior can be vac'ed in 10 minutes, and I can do a quick wash AND spray ceramic coat in 30 mins.

With cars I rarely see, such as my sisters, it can take me 3-4 hours just to get the interior to an acceptable standard.

Paid to have the Jag washed at the multi storey cark park the other day. £15 just to wash the outside but I was happy to pay that because it was absolutely covered in bird poop (sometimes the only available parking spot is under a tree).

If you are paying less than the op, for inside AND out, then it is probably slave labour or a front for crime.

It depends how you use a car. I tend to be the only one in mine so the interior hardly needs touching. But where I live the roads are that stty that it’s a big job in the winter every couple of weeks. My parking is a bit tight so I was initially going to get someone to do it but I’ve got it down to a fine art now. I usually do my partners with the leftover water….

I used to DIY, but getting older now with a couple of health issues, basically I just can't be bothered any more.

£8 / £10 for exterior, Telford. (They seem to change their mind each time whether a CRV is considered 'medium' or 'large' laugh

Gone are the days of calmly thinking 'oh how do they do this so cheap with utility costs etc'...

I've always avoided them as they are money/illegal operations.

Paid £17 a few weeks back just for an exterior wash.

Price has gone up in the last few months but they did a st job compared to normal. Wasn’t impressed so I imagine they’ve been raided and got a new lot in.

Will do it myself next time.
