Temp Insurance Cover advice
Discussion
I am arranging the return of a lease car and switching the insurance over to it’s replacement. There will be an overlap of 13 days between picking up the new one and collection of the lease car. I need to keep the old one insured until it is collected so I am looking at temp cover for that. I don’t intend to drive the lease durinng this period as I will have access to the new car plus my partner’s car should I/we need it. I have scouted around and the best cost I have found is £142 for 13 days.
Can anyone recommend any companies I could call outside of the usual comparison sites or MSE recomendations? online quotes all seem to be fully comp without the option of reducing cover and assume regular usage whereas I guess all I would need is 3PF&T as that would cover it sitting on my driveway and not going anywhere. Or am I missing a trick by searching for temp cover when I should be looking for something else?

Without knowing your risk profile or what the car is it's hard to tell if £143 is reasonable, but given that an average policy is a few hundred quid a year it seems on the high side.
One thing I would do is call your existing insurer and ask if they are willing to add the 2nd car to the policy during the overlap period. I know Admiral at least offer that, and the price is likely to be less.
Another option would be to take out an annual policy, then just cancel it when you no longer need it. Insurers publish their cancellation costs, in some cases it's a lot, in others it's very little, so make sure you check that. You have the legal right to cancel any insurance policy within 14 days for any reason, but I've never come across a car insurance policy that won't let you cancel outside that, albeit with a fee.

Is this through someone like tempcover? I've found they are excellent if you need cover for something like 48 hours but beyond that was not very good.
For example, I needed to cover an impromptu loan car when mine was in the shop, they gave me a Honda Jazz for free with the proviso I insure it. Temporary cover for 2-3 weeks was going to be something like £13 a day.
I spoke to my current insurance and they added it on to my current policy as a second car (for the rest of my insurance policy (7 months)) for £58. So might be worth a shot, just remember remove it at a later date/renewal.

Thanks, I had considered a standard insurance policy and cancelling it within the 14 day cooling off period. Usually the admin fee is £30-50 so might be worth it.
The car is a BMW M135i. Current policy cost was £585, hence why I’m a bit reluctant to pay just under a quarter of that for 2 weeks cover just for it to be sat outside my house. My current insurer do offer multicover so I’ll give them a call and see if they’ll cover it alongside the new car for the time I need it.

Thanks all, looks like calling my current insurer is my next move.
I’ll also call the dealership to see if they’ll offer drive-away cover and see how long that would cover. Even if it’s a week and I can then pay for 5 days instead of 13 of temp cover
The new car is considerably more to cover in the short term so that’s also a no-go for now
