Mrs GP and I are off to collect a new addition to the fleet tomorrow, it's a 30 year old Peugeot 106 (Readers Cars thread to come which will explain why on earth we've done this). It's apparently in very good condition and working order, has a largely flawless MoT history and the owner has assured me everything should be fine to complete the (lengthy) journey home on the motorway. A car vertical check confirms it's history and the very low 8k mileage so hopefully we'll be good.

All that said, I'm a naturally cautious/suspicious person and especially when it comes to buying cars, so to say I'm terrified about driving it home is an understatement. Especially as we've not seen it in person yet hehe

To that end, I have a credit card, RAC membership and st load of tools to take. I have ALL fluids, my socket set, all my wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, snips, hammer, trolley jack, wheel brace, jump leads, multimeter, ratchet straps, bodge tape and cable ties. I've also got spare fuses, a million hose clips, an inspection lamp, foot pump, blue roll, disposable gloves and an old duvet to lay on if I need to get underneath it. Notwithstanding my paranoia is rampant right now so I want take everything in the garage, is there anything I've forgotten? hehe

Obviously, it'll get a bloody good look over before starting home, but any advice and piss taking welcome. I'll try and update the thread updated throughout the day with our progress. If we make any!

It’s a 1990’S Pug, electronic ignition, probably PAS,CL and EW, not a pre war jalopy, It’ll be fine.

Weigh diddly squat, get ready for some lift off oversteer, fast in, sideways out. driving

You may be overthinking this.I’ve been involved in picking up some ‘bereavement’ and ‘ retired from driving’ cars as well as dealers’ cheapies from round the back in the car park of shame,, admittedly not so old, but the little Peugeot is a simple thing. If you are already in a breakdown scheme, I would simply check the levels and drive it round locally, close to the vendor’s. If all seems normal I would happily continue home. I don’t think there is any need to anticipate anything dire. Good luck, anyway, you will know next week whether you have bonded to it.
