£20K Modular Car - Yes or No?
Discussion
No, it's not a relaunch of the Sinclair C5. This vehicle is nevertheless quite imaginative.
It's called the Slate Truck. My top five points:
. . . 1. It's a two-seat pickup, but optionally can be configured as a five-seat SUV.
. . . 2. Body panels are moulded in one colour (grey). Optionally you can spec a wrap from mild to wild.
. . . 3. While the base variant is utter simplicity (one colour, manual windows, no tablet faff), owners can personalise their vehicles with optional kit offered by the manufacturer as well as a community of third-party vendors and makers.
. . . 4. It's a full-on battery-electric vehicle with a range of 150 miles. Optionally a larger battery boosts range to 240 miles.
. . . 5. In its domestic market (US) a box-fresh Slate Truck will go out the door at the equivalent of £20,000 exclusive of subsidy and tax.
The question for PHers
Let's assume that Slate eventually commits to right-hand drive as well as a reasonable if somewhat spartan network of dealers in the UK. If a bank holiday weekend approaches: Would you take the Slate Truck home for a test drive?
