I have a BMW 320I F30 from 2012 which I have had for just over a year. Been very troublesome. In the last couple months Ive had to have the battery replaced for some £400, a new radiator after the previous one cracked as well as a new coolant container, and two new tyres. Spent over £1000 on these repairs plus a service. Now for the past few days I've noticed when driving at around 60mph there's this rattling and vibrating coming from under the car. Tyres are fine and nothing being dragged under. Sounds like the whole car is shaking. Stabilises after a while at 70 but after losing speed and accelerating it it starts again. Today I got a drive train error, and it seems to be starting at about 50 now. I got out of the car after a long drive and there w as s also a smell of burning plastic.

What is this likely to be, a guido broken? And in the medium to long term is it worth keeping this car? As it seems unsustainable to be spending so much just keeping it on the road.

If you can drive through it like that it sounds like it might be some kind of balancing issue, either in the tyres or the drivetrain, but not sure if that explains all your symptoms. When my guibo was on its way out it didn't do anything like that, it just felt jerky whenever you stressed the drivetrain.

13 year old cars require money and/or work to keep them going. It's the other side of the coin from them essentially having stopped depreciating.

Yeah my first thoughts were something like that or an alignment issue but the drive train error suggests something internal related, unlike previous drive train errors Ive had this one won't disappear either
