temporary insurance cover for my son
Discussion
doing the NC500 with my son in July, we wanted to share the driving ,but im struggling to find a way of getting cover.
The car is an F type V6 , my son is 23, and non of the temporary insurance companies will even quote.
My insurance provider wont quote to put him on as additional driver and my last resort was if he could drive it third party only under his own insurance policy , but it seems the days of being covered that way are long gone.
Has anyone got any suggestions or know of any specialist companies that would provide cover for a week.
The irony is that I would be in the car with him whenever he is driving it and hes got his hgv entitlement and often drives a 130T mobile crane

Have you tried a looking for a whole new policy for yourself and your son as a named driver.
If you cancel your current policy they will pay you back a %of your policy is left to run.
Its probably the only option. Your son just doesnt match the insurance driving profile for an F type.
A 130T crane is probably covered under a businesses insurance not your sons personal insurance.

A search for a new insurer who will cover him sounds like the best option. Although the only reason I could insure a 2.8i Capri when I was 25 was because I worked for an insurance company, and your car must have more than twice the power!
Still I hope you find a solution because a trip around the NC500 in a car like that would create some fantastic father/son memories.

Being covered third party is still very much a thing , just not for young drivers. The car is an F type V6 , my son is 23, and non of the temporary insurance companies will even quote.

It is, both my policies provide TPO cover on cars I don't own but then I'm old now! When I worked for an insurance company back in the late 70s DOC cover was not provided until you were 21 (apart from me), but I guess the age criteria has increased.
