When cars are sold as only electric and learners are taking tests in them what licence will they get?
If they only get auto and there are still many manuals about then is that going to be an issue?

I guess at some point when there are no new manual cars for drivers to learn in, they will do away with manual/ auto licences, and just have one.

Auto will become the default test soon.

No it won't be an issue; but it's whether there will be a manual test option or just crack on and crunch those gears fella!

The government like to make things difficult. So I'm going to guess you will need to do another (extended) test in a classic car. Also another theory test which is the same as the previous one, if bike licensing is anything to go by hehe

It’s a good question and rather I suspect the government will do nothing. The learners will simply have to provide a car and if they want to learn on a manual then thats their problem.

What happens when we get driverless cars?
Will there be a requirement to pass a test ?

I can see a move to automatics but when I passed my test I don't think there was an auto only option that's 50 years ago so things are changing, but on the bright side it won't affect me too much

This was raised in a thread yesterday.

My view hasn't changed. Right now, anyone doing an auto-test, whether EV or otherwise is making their lives hard. If they're 17/18 and looking a first car, there aren't many cheap, cheap to insure and run auto cars around.

That'll gradually change, but that's years away.
